STUDENT INFO           

·      Prom 2017, “A Night with the Stars,” is Saturday, May 20, 2017 at the Globe Theatre in Universal City. Juniors and Seniors may purchase tickets during nutrition and lunch in the Student Store. Vouchers redeemable for prom tickets are available at the MCHS ASB webstore, https://mchswebstore.myschoolcentral.com.

·      Surf Team Tryouts have been rescheduled to Tuesday, May 2, at 6:30 am at 26th Street in Manhattan Beach.

·      Study Skills Workshop available through MBX Summer School. This class is designed to enhance reading comprehension, organization, concentration, test-taking and critical thinking. Dates are July 11, 12, 13 from 4-6:30.

·      Are you getting ready for college applications? MBX Summer School is offering a workshop called The Next Phase of College Planning. Invest in your future – start the application process by working on brag sheets, resumes, personal statements, etc. Dates are July 18, 19, 20 from 4-6:30 pm.  

·      Come see Oklahoma! Tickets will be sold at lunch for $12 for students/seniors and $18 for adults. The tickets will be the same price at the door! The last shows are TONIGHT at 6:30 pm, Friday at 7:30 pm, and Saturday at 2 pm & 7:30 pm.

·      Want to visit Fiji’s tropical reefs, diverse jungles, and pristine surf breaks? Come to Room 343 TODAY during lunch for Fiji 2018.

·      Ladies and Gentlemen, Mr. Harry Gregson-Williams is coming to give a talk about what it is like to be a Film Composer and to walk the audience through some of his own work on Shrek and The Martian! It is May 3 during AM Office Hours in the small theater.

·      The Swim Snack Stand on the Pool Deck will be open TODAY at 2 pm. Come buy a Dollar Dog or some candy and support the Costa Swim Team during their last home meet of the year. Stay for the meet against rival Redondo Beach and cheer on Team Costa!

·      Have you ordered your yearbook? We have a totally unique and cool surprise this year, so you don’t want to miss out! If you are not sure, check with Mrs. Cessor in the student store. Prices go up next week, so don't delay. Order now for $110 with ASB Marker or $120 without. Purchase at the student store or on the MCHS Webstore.

 

CLUBS & ORGANIZATIONS

·      Come to the Animal Shelter Club at lunch on Fridays in Room 55, Mrs. Clarke, to help the dogs and cats at the Carson Animal Shelter find their forever homes!

·      Club Harmony: Come to Room 207 at lunch on Friday to learn about diversity in our community and to promote social inclusiveness!

COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER

·      MCHS Senior College Commitment Day/Map Event on Friday, April 28 during lunch. Show us where you will be attending school in the fall! Wear your new school gear to the Mustang Mall stage and place your sticker on the map!

·      SENIORS: All graduating seniors are required to complete the Senior Clearance process by submitting their post-high school plans. Please complete the following steps and bring copies to the CCC by May 22

-If you are planning to enter a 4-year or Community College:

1. Updated Naviance college admissions results page. (Go to the College tab. For colleges that you did NOT end up applying to, mark as “withdrawn.” For colleges that you applied to and did not get into, mark “denied.” For colleges you applied to and got into, mark “accepted.” Finally, indicate which school you are going to at the bottom of the page.)

2. Completed senior survey (on Naviance, under the “About Me” tab)

3. Acceptance letter from the school you will be attending, or verbally tell us your plans for next year – taking a gap year, job, military, traveling, etc.

This process will ensure that your final transcript will be sent to the school you plan to attend in the fall.

·      JUNIORS: Want an insiders’ view to the College application process? The Mira Costa High School College & Career Center invites the Junior Class to the Case Study College Night and Mini College Fair on May 18 at 6:00 pm. Parents and students will be led through various mock admissions committees to gain insight and understanding as to what is valued in an application. This event is an engaging and effective way to discuss the college application process with college admission representatives from around the country. A college mini fair with over 20 different private and out of state colleges will be held in the Cafeteria immediately following this event, beginning at 7:15 pm.

Space for the Case Study activity is limited to 150 juniors and ONE parent/guardian per student. Students must sign up through Naviance. The mini fair is open to all students and parents, no sign-up required.

·      Featured Program: UCLA Summer Sessions 2017 for High School Students During the summer, high school students have a unique opportunity to earn college credit by enrolling in UCLA undergraduate courses. Over 100 courses in 50 subject areas are open to high school students who want to experience UCLA’s academic rigor. All course work is recorded on an official UCLA transcript.
