Today is “Would you still be my friend if…?” Day!

STUDENT INFO           

·        Hey Mustangs!! Don’t forget to dress up for Spirit Week! TODAY: Would you still be my friend if…?, so wear your wackiest outfit; Homecoming Friday: Super Stampede!

·        Want to become a politically active young adult? Want to get your presidential candidate into office? Or maybe just help change the community? Then come and register to vote at the LA Youth Vote table this week in the main quad at lunch. Even if you’re only 16 or 17, you may still pre-register!

·        October is Bullying Prevention Month. Please join the HEART program in spreading Random Acts of Kindness this week on Monday, Thursday and Friday during homeroom all across MCHS!

·        Are you interested in going into an engineering field? Get experience in mechanical, electrical and environmental engineering by joining the Solar Cup team. Help build a solar powered boat and race it in the Solar Cup. Come to an informational meeting on Thursday, Oct. 13 at lunch in Room 242, or see Mr. Oystrick.

·        Homecoming Dance is this Saturday at 7:00 pm. Tickets are on sale now at the Student Store or the ASB Webstore. Ticket prices: with ASB Marker – single $17, couple $30; without ASB Marker – single $19, couple $34. Bring ID card to buy tickets.

SPORTS

·         Boys’ Indoor Volleyball tryouts will be held TODAY in the gym from 4 to 5:30 pm for Freshmen and new players, and from 5 to 6:30 pm for returning indoor players.

·         Costa Boys’ Water Polo (Div. 1)The 47th Annual Henry Stuart South Bay Tournament is this Friday & Saturday! Lots of great games to watch starting at 3pm - plus we will be selling our local favorite pizza slices from MANHATTAN PIZZERIA!! YUM!

 

CLUBS & ORGANIZATIONS

·         Come to Creative Writing Club TODAY at lunch in Room 207! New members are always welcome.

·         Are you a girl interested in pursuing a career in the STEM field? If so, come to Room 350 at lunch on Friday.

·         Buzzz!!! Come to Save the Bees Club on Mondays in Room 18.

·         Need a safe and sane environment to hang out in? Come to Mr. Zeoli’s Room 23 Thursdays (TODAY) at lunch for Gender & Sexuality Alliance.

·         CCC Updates

The CCC is now open from 8am until 7pm. We hope you’ll take advantage of the extra hours and our extended services!

* How to Write a Powerful Essay – 5:30-6:30pm on Tuesday, 10/18. Go to the CCC Calendar on the MCHS website to sign-up.

*FAFSA Information Session – 5:30-6:30pm on Tuesday, 10/25.  Go to the CCC Calendar on the MCHS website to sign-up.

*College Application Workshop Wednesdays from 2:00-7:00pm. Walk in and work on your college applications and personal statements with support from a CCC counselor. Bring a device or reserve one in the CCC.

*Ninth Grade Planning Meetings  – 6-7pm on multiple dates to accommodate small groups: 10/20, 27; 11/1, 9, 15; 12/1, 5, 14.  9th grade planning, 4-year planning graduation requirements, A-G College entrance requirements, academic goals, extracurricular activities, how to stay in touch. ·         SCROC is now enrolling for its 9-week courses. Classes begin Monday, Nov. 14. Sign up in the Career Center to speak with a SCROC advisor and pick up an application.

·            Test Prep Resources:

o  Revolution Prep is offering free online practice tests. Sign up using this link: https://www.revolutionprep.com/jk-practice-test. Download practice tests and take them in the comfort of your own home.

o  PJ Test Prep is offering Free SAT/ACT Tests on Saturday, Nov. 19 and Sunday, Dec. 4 starting at 10:00am. Take the test and return after a short break to get the results, and learn free test strategy tips. Location for both dates is the Holiday Inn Express, Hermosa Beach. RSVP at www.pjtestprep.com/rsvp.
