STUDENT INFO           

·         Looking for some good old spooky entertainment? Come to this year’s first Noontime Theatre during AM office hours TODAY for laughter, horror and much more!

·         The counselors would like to invite new students in 10th, 11th and 12th grades to the New Student Halloween Office Hours Party TODAY during office hours (seniors, during AM office hours; sophomores and juniors, during PM office hours). Hope to see you there!

·         BOO! Did I scare you? Probably not, so come get spooked for real at the Art 1 and Ceramics 1 Monster Art Show! The monsters will be haunting every day from Oct. 25 through Nov. 1 in Room 62.

·         Yearbook and Senior Ad prices will be rising Nov. 1. Get yours before the prices go up! Current Prices: Yearbook $85 with ASB Marker or $105 without; Senior Ads are Full page: $330, Half Page $230, ¼ page $130. Purchases can be made at the Mira Costa Student Store or our ASB WebStore.

SPORTS

  • Boys’ Basketball tryouts will be held Tuesday, Nov. 1 and Thursday, Nov. 3 at Manhattan Beach Middle School from 7 – 9pm. If you are an upperclassman interested in trying out for Varsity, please contact Coach Amaral directly at [email protected].

FACULTY

  • Homeroom Teachers: Please turn in your orange UNICEF Trick-or-Treat fundraiser boxes by this Friday, 10/28, to the box in Ms. Gardner’s office in the Admin building.
  • Please release the following teams this week:
    • TODAY 10/26Girls’ Tennis (select players; see email for roster) at 10:30 am.
    • Thursday 10/27Football, JV at 1:00 pm vs. PV; Girls’ Tennis (select players; see email for roster) at 10:30 am.
    • Friday 10/28 – Boys’ Water Polo, Varsity at 1:20 pm.

CLUBS & ORGANIZATIONS

·         Are you a girl interested in pursuing a career in STEM? If so, come to GALS Club in Room 350 this Friday at lunch!

·         Come to Astronomy Club in Room 248 (Mr. Bartlett’s room) every Thursday at lunch for Astronomy Club, which happens every Thursday at lunch in Room 248.

·         Come to Lend a Hand Club on Fridays in Room 72 at lunch! On Sundays we make sandwiches and go to Skid Row to feed the homeless!

·         Come to Pink Ribbon Club on Thursdays in Room 78 for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

·         Mental Health Awareness Club: Come to Room 21 Tuesdays to learn about mental health and, more importantly, how to spread awareness about these struggles.

·         Come to Drama Club every Wednesday (TODAY) at lunch in the Drama Room 1 to learn all about the upcoming events in the Drama/Tech Department.

·         Science Olympiad will be meeting TODAY in Ms. Bledsoe’s Room 352 at lunch.

·         Thursday, Nov. 3 from 4 pm to 7 pm in Room 74, BSU will hold its first Movie Night. There will be one every month, and this month we will be watching Straight Outta Compton. Snacks will be provided, so please come out and support.

·         Geeks Club: Come to the Library this Friday to use the 3D printers and design 3D objects.

·         Come to Leo Club every Monday in Room 75 to get community service hours and make new friends. Everyone is welcome!

·         Want to become a published author? Come to Reflections on Mondays at Room 207.

·         CCC Updates

The CCC will now be open from 8 am – 7 pm Monday-Thursday and 8 am – 5 pm on Fridays. We hope you can take advantage of the extra hours and our extended services.

*College Application Workshop Wednesdays from 2:00-7:00pm. Walk in and work on your college applications and personal statements with support from a CCC counselor. Bring a device or reserve one in the CCC.

*Ninth Grade Planning Meetings in the CCC – on multiple dates to accommodate small groups: Evening meetings (6-7pm) on 10/27; 11/1, 9, 15; 12/1, 5, 14. Daytime meetings: (9-10am) on 11/7, 17, 12/8, 9, 13.  Topics include: 9th grade planning, 4-year planning graduation requirements, A-G College entrance requirements, academic goals, extracurricular activities, and how to stay in touch. ·         SCROC is now enrolling for its 9-week courses. Classes begin Monday, Nov. 14. Sign up in the Career Center to speak with a SCROC advisor and pick up an application.

·            Test Prep Resources:

o  Attention Juniors, on Nov. 12 there will be a Free SAT/ACT Combo Practice Test held by Kaplan Test Prep to help students decide between the SAT or ACT. Participants will receive their scores instantly. The practice test will be held at Westwood Kaplan Center from 9:00am-12:30pm as well as Live Online. Sign up www.kaptest.com/practicetestweekend.

o  Revolution Prep is offering free online practice tests. Sign up using this link: https://www.revolutionprep.com/jk-practice-test. Download practice tests and take them in the comfort of your own home.

o  PJ Test Prep is offering Free SAT/ACT Tests on Saturday, Nov. 19 and Sunday, Dec. 4 starting at 10:00am.
