STUDENT INFO           

·        The PTSA Reflections Art Contest deadline is rapidly approaching. Monday Nov. 14 is the last day to submit any art entry to Ms. Gardner in the Admin. Bldg. The theme this year is, What is your story? Contest rules and forms are in the Admin Office or available from your VAPA teacher.

·        If there are any athletes who have signed with a college for their sport and would like to be included in National Signing Day, please e-mail Mr. Shaw ([email protected]), who will provide additional information about the process. Signing Day will be on Wednesday, Nov. 16, (11:10 am) at lunch in the Mustang Mall.

·        The Fall Production of Almost, Maine continues TODAY Nov 10 at 6:30 pm, Friday Nov. 11 at 7:30 and Saturday Nov. 12 at 2 pm & 7:30 pm. Ticket prices are $12 for students and seniors and $15 for adults. TODAY’s show is $5 for MCHS students.

SENIORS

SPORTS

  • Mustang Football will host Paramount at home in the first round of the CIF playoffs Friday at 7 pm. Go Mustangs!
  • Spread the word! Costa is starting a Girls’ 7s Rugby Team. Sevens is a little less physical than 15s, which our boys play. It’s a winter sport with games starting in January! Most of our State Champion Boys’ Team had never played rugby, so don’t worry if you are new to the game – we’ll teach you everything you need to know. Practices are Tuesday through Friday from 2:15 to 3:30 pm on the back field (between Meadows and the Gym). Contact [email protected] or [email protected] for more info.

CLUBS & ORGANIZATIONS

·        Come to Lend a Hand Club on Friday at lunch in Room 72 to find out when our next trip is to Skid Row!

·        Black Scholars Union meets every Thursday (TODAY) in Room 74 at lunch. We have several new initiatives for this year that we would love for you to be a part of. All new members are welcome!

·        Do you think the world is perfect? If you said no, you aren’t alone; so come to Human Equality Club Wednesdays in Room 203 to talk about important issues and needs for the betterment of society. Human Equality Club is a safe club where we will cover many types of equality including racial, gender, religious, and LGBTQ and rights.

COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER

·         College Visits – Please sign up on Naviance If visit is during class, please ask your teacher for permission to attend.

o   TODAY 11/10Reed College at 8:00am, U.S. Army Scholarship Presentation at 12:20pm.

o   Wednesday 11/16 International Universities Information Session at 9:27am (AM Office Hours)

o   Thursday 11/17 Michigan State Admissions Representative visit for interested students and parents at 6:00pm.

·         CCC Updates

The CCC will now be open from 8 am – 7 pm Monday-Thursday and 8 am – 5 pm on Fridays. We hope you can take advantage of the extra hours and our extended services.

*College Application Workshop Wednesdays from 2:00-7:00pm. Walk in and work on your college applications and personal statements with support from a CCC counselor. Bring a device or reserve one in the CCC.

*Ninth Grade Planning Meetings in the CCC – on multiple dates to accommodate small groups: Evening meetings (6-7pm) 11/15; 12/1, 5, 14. Daytime meetings: (9-10am) 11/17, 12/8, 9, 13.  Topics include: 9th grade planning, 4-year planning graduation requirements, A-G College entrance requirements, academic goals, extracurricular activities, and how to stay in touch. Go to the CCC Calendar on the MCHS website to sign up. ** The CCC will close at 3:30pm on 11/16, and 12/7; please plan accordingly.

·            Test Prep Resources:

o  Attention Juniors, on Nov. 12 there will be a Free SAT/ACT Combo Practice Test held by Kaplan Test Prep to help students decide between the SAT or ACT. Participants will receive their scores instantly. The practice test will be held at Westwood Kaplan Center from 9:00am-12:30pm as well as Live Online. Sign up at www.kaptest.com/practicetestweekend.

o  Revolution Prep is offering free online practice tests. Sign up using this link: https://www.revolutionprep.com/jk-practice-test. Download practice tests and take them in the comfort of your own home.

o  PJ Test Prep is offering Free SAT/ACT Tests on Saturday, Nov. 19 and Sunday, Dec. 4 starting at 10:00am. Take the test and return after a short break to get the results, and learn free test strategy tips. Location for both dates is the Holiday Inn Express, Hermosa Beach. RSVP at www.pjtestprep.com/rsvp. ·         SCROC is now enrolling for its 9-week courses. Classes begin Monday, Nov. 14. Sign up in the Career Center to speak with a SCROC advisor and pick up an application.
