STUDENT INFO           

·         Hey, reminder that all Angel Trees, Adopt-A-Family, Toys and canned foods were due this week. All items should be turned in immediately.

·         Belize Trip 2017 meeting in Room 220 TODAY at lunch.

·         If you participated in the PTSA’s Reflections Art Contest and haven’t picked up your artwork from Ms. Gardner in the office, please do so by the end of the day.

·         Looking for a good time? Wanna laugh your arms off? Come to our holiday-themed Comedy Sportz Match vs. Redondo TONIGHT, Dec. 15 at 7 pm in the new/small theatre for holiday spirit, laughs, and anything you can imagine. Cost is $5.

·         Reminder: Neptunian Woman’s Club Art and Photo Contest is in full swing! Entry forms are available in the office or from your Art or Photo teacher. Deadline to turn in entries to Ms. Gardner is Friday, Feb. 10.

·         The Mira Costa Choirs present their winter concert, This Shining Night, featuring four choirs and two a cappella groups on Friday, Dec. 16 at 7 pm in the auditorium. Free admission for students.

·         One space left! Interested in going to London for Spring Break? See Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, Hampton Court, the bloody tower of London, Stonehenge, and Windsor Castle. Visit ancient Roman ruins. See major shows such as Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, the London Philharmonic at the Royal Albert Hall and more! ·         Attention CSF Members: Your envelopes containing your CSF membership cards have been given to your 2nd period homeroom teachers. Please remind your homeroom teacher to pass them out, if you have not received them by TODAY. This year I did not write your name on the cards, so please do it yourself.  Thank you! – Mrs. Cunningham

·         Lost and Found! Lost and found will be donating all items that are not claimed by Thursday, Dec. 22. Please stop by the attendance office to look for any items you may have lost.

·         Audition packets for the Spring Musical, Oklahoma!, are now available in the Drama Room 1. Audition forms are due TODAY to Ms. Mathews in Room 1.

·         Shoe Drive FINAL WEEK! Over 1.5 billion people do not own a pair of shoes! Please clean out your closet and donate y our old shoes to those in need. We will be collecting shoes at the school office and around campus through Friday, Dec. 16! Please tie laces together or rubber band to keep shoes in pairs. Help us change the world one pair at a time!

SENIORS

·         Seniors! If you have a freshman sibling, please come to Room 49 at lunch this week to have your photo taken for the Freshman/Junior sibling yearbook page!

 

FACULTY

·         If you have not already done so, please stop by Chuck Currier’s Room 2222 at snack or lunch Thursday or Friday to sign a special poster/get well card for Tim Cooper, our athletic trainer, who is at UCLA after a major surgery. The card will be taken to him on Friday evening.

·         Please excuse the following teams this week:

o    FRIDAY, 12/16: Wrestling (details to follow when times and levels are provided)

CLUBS & ORGANIZATIONS

·         Do you like eating cookies and/or taking naps? Then the Cookie and Nap Club is for you! Meeting this Friday in Room 20. Cookies and some blankets provided.

·         Come to Lend a Hand Club on Fridays in Room 72 at lunch! We go to Skid Row on Sundays and make lunches for the homeless.

·         Black Scholars Union meets every Thursday (TODAY) in Room 74 at lunch. We have several new initiatives for this year that we would love for you to be a part of. All new members are welcome!

 

COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER

·         SeniorsThe MCHS Scholarship Notebook Program will begin in January. If you wish to participate, you will be required to attend ONE of the MANDATORY January lunchtime meetings (1/12, 1/18, OR 1/24). This program allows donors to view your notebook and award local community scholarships. Detailed information is available on the MCHS Website→College Tab→Senior-To-Do Tab. Please sign-up on Naviance to attend one of the meetings and bring $7 to purchase notebooks. 

·         Upcoming College Visits – Please sign up on Naviance. If visit is during class, please ask your teacher for permission to attend.

o    TODAY, 12/15 Yale University at 11:25am;

PSAT Score Back Session, 5:30-6:30pm TONIGHT in the CCC. If you took the October PSAT you will be able to view your scores on your College Board account December 12. Bring a copy of your scores or an electronic device to view your scores. A Princeton Review expert will help you interpret your score report results, make sure you understand what your scores mean, and how the tests fit into the college admissions process. ·         *NEW* Career Speaker Series – Beginning in January! Professionals in various industries will visit the CCC to speak about their careers and the path they took to get there.  This is a great opportunity to learn about different careers and the steps you need to take to land your dream job! Please sign-up on Naviance or in the CCC.  All grade levels are welcome!  Watch the bulletin for additional speakers.

o    Revolution Prep is offering free SAT or ACT Practice Exams on Saturday, Feb. 4 from 9:00am-1:00pm at MCHS. Register by Feb. 1, call (818) 217-0951 or email: [email protected]. Revolution Prep will present “The Insider’s Guide to College Admissions Testing” on Tuesday, Jan. 24 from 5:30-6:30pm or Wednesday, Feb. 1 from 12:30-1:20pm. o    PJ Test Prep is offering SAT or ACT practice tests 10am-2:10pm with a results seminar 2:45-4:00pm on Saturdays – Jan. 7, 14 at the Hermosa Beach Holiday Inn Express, and Jan. 18, and Mar. 19 at the Torrance Courtyard Marriott.
