STUDENT INFO           

·         Don’t miss Costa’s FIRST fully improvised show, Tonight’s Play! That’s right – an entire play created on the spot with audience suggestions! Tonight’s Play runs Fri. 1/27 at 7:30 pm and Sat. 1/28 at 2 pm and 7:30 pm in the small theatre. Tickets are $12 (adults) and $10 (students), and can be purchased online at miracostadramaboosters.org, next week in the Drama Room 1, or at the door. Space is limited, so don’t miss your chance to witness the magic!

·         Hermosa Valley School is looking for HVS alumni to be Cabin Leaders for the 6th Grade Outdoor Science School in Malibu. Outdoor School will take place from Monday, Mar. 13 to Friday, Mar. 17. Cabin leaders can earn 100 community service hours. The applicant deadline is Friday, Jan. 27, so that we can have a crew and alternates in place. Please contact Mr. Hecker ASAP at [email protected].

·         Mira Costa Hockey: If you are interested in playing hockey for MC, there will be an informational meeting this Friday, Jan. 13 in Room 242 at lunch. If you can’t make the meeting, please talk to Mr. Oystrick in Room 242.

·         You are cordially invited to attend Mira Costa’s sixth annual Poetry Out Loud Competition at 7 pm in the small theatre on Thursday, Jan. 19. While the judges are tabulating, there will be a community open mic – contestants and audience members are welcome to read original poems. If you are a poet, please come share your poetic genius! We hope you make it out for this amazing night of poetry. Admission is FREE!

·         Mandatory Poetry Out Loud contestant meeting this Thursday 1/12 at lunch in Ms. Sieker’s Room 44!

·         Office Hours: If you are unable to check in for Office Hours, go to the administrative office immediately for assistance. Please do not wait until later in the day to get help.

·         The Grammy Award winning Mira Costa Jazz Bands are holding two open rehearsal clinics for placement in Jazz Band II. The clinics will be Monday, Jan. 9 and Wednesday, Jan. 11 from 3-5 pm in Room 4. RSVP on the sign-up sheet in Room 4.

·         Calling all artists for the “Why I © MB” City Hall Art Exhibition! The MB Parks and Rec Department’s Cultural Arts Division is looking for artists of all ages to submit their entries for the 2017 “Why I © MB” art exhibition. Theme: Original artwork that depicts what people love about MB. Exhibition Dates: Feb. 21 through Mar. 16,  2017. Exhibition Location: Manhattan Beach City Hall, 1400 Highland Ave., MB, CA 90266. ·         Reminder: Neptunian Woman’s Club Art and Photo Contest is in full swing! Entry forms are available in the office or from your Art or Photo teacher. Deadline to turn in entries to Ms. Gardner is Friday, Feb. 10.

CLUBS & ORGANIZATIONS

·         Winter Club Day is coming up on January 25! All club representatives need to come pick up and fill out the 2nd semester report by Jan. 17. Club Day forms are due on Thursday, Jan. 19.

·         Come to Lend a Hand Club on Fridays in Room 72 at lunch! On Sundays we make lunches and bring them to L.A.’s Skid Row.

·         Come to Drama Club every Wednesday (TODAY) in the Drama Room 1 to learn about all that is happening in the Drama/Tech Department.

·         The Art Club’s Art Show has been rescheduled to begin on the 8th of February. Submit your work by the 1st of February or join us at Art Club in Room 62 on Wednesday at lunch for more information.

SPORTS

·         Final tryouts for Girls’ Lacrosse will be Tuesday, 1/17 and Wednesday, 1/18 from 6 to 8 pm at the stadium. Players must attend both days of tryouts. Please bring a mouthguard (mandatory), lacrosse stick, goggles, cleats and running shoes.

COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER

·         SeniorsThe MCHS Scholarship Notebook Program will begin this month. If you wish to participate, you will be required to attend ONE of the MANDATORY January lunchtime meetings (1/12, 1/18, OR 1/24). This program allows donors to view your notebook and award local community scholarships. Detailed information is available on the MCHS Website→College Tab→Senior-To-Do Tab. Please sign-up on Naviance to attend one of the meetings and bring $7 to purchase notebooks.

·         FEATURED SUMMER PROGRAM: Harvey Mudd College’s WISTEM encourages young women to pursue careers in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields and experience the Harvey Mudd community. The two-day (Feb. 23-25, 2017) residential program includes class visits, research lab tours, an HMC alumnae panel, a hands-on workshop and much more! ·         Career Speaker Series – Beginning this month! Professionals in various industries will visit the CCC to speak about their careers and the path they took to get there. This is a great opportunity to learn about different careers and the steps you need to take to land your dream job! Please sign-up on Naviance or in the CCC. All grade levels are welcome!
