STUDENT INFO           

·      Attention! Talent Show tickets are now on sale! You can buy them at the ASB Room 40/41, from Mrs. Claypoole, or from a senior class officer.

·      Students who have excused periods (other than zero period): Off-grounds stickers for spring semester are available this week in the main office at snack, lunch, or before or after school ONLY. You MUST have a current school ID to get a sticker.

·      The deadline for submitting Our Beauty projects has been extended to Friday, Jan. 27. You can propose monologues, songs, dances, videos, poems or any other creative idea, as long as the protagonist showcases an underrepresented culture. Submission forms can be found at http://tinyurl.com/hg63roq and can be turned into Room 17, or email to [email protected].

·      Mira Costa’s first fully improvised show, Tonight’s Play, opens this weekend. The actors will create an entire show based on audience suggestions, so each performance is new and unique! The show runs Fri. 1/27 at 7:30 pm and Sat. 1/28 at 2 pm & 7:30 pm in the small theatre. Tickets are $10 for students and $12 for adults. Purchase online at miracostadramaboosters.org, at the door, or in Room 1 this week.

·      The ASB Finance Office will be closed January 26 and 27 for all items except AP Registration and Winter Formal purchases.  If you need to purchase PE Clothing, request transcripts or replace your ID, please visit the Finance Office TODAY.  Club Day Financial business will be handled by Mrs. Claypoole in Room 41. Please turn your deposits and reimbursement requests in to her ASAP.

·      Club Day is this Wednesday, Jan. 25. Make sure you bring your money!

·      Office Hours 1/25: If you are unable to check in, go to the administrative office for assistance right away. Do not wait until later in the day to get help.

·      AP Students: Don’t forget to sign up to register to take your AP exams TODAY during lunch only at the Student Store. Please bring your completed blue worksheet and a pen to complete the actual registration form. Checks ($98 for each exam) should be made payable to MCHS. New This Year: Online registration also is available NOW. Go to ASB webstore on the MCHS website. A credit card is required for online registration.

·      Calling all artists for the “Why I © MB” City Hall Art Exhibition! The MB Parks and Rec Department’s Cultural Arts Division is looking for artists of all ages to submit their entries for the 2017 “Why I © MB” art exhibition. Theme: Original artwork that depicts what people love about MB. Exhibition Dates: Feb. 21 through Mar. 16, 2017. Exhibition Location: MB City Hall, 1400 Highland Ave., MB, CA 90266. ·      If you worked hard last semester and received fantastic grades, you may be eligible for CSF! The current membership drive will continue through Friday, Feb. 3. Come to Room 243 to pick up an application and ask questions. Freshmen are invited to become an “Associate Member.”

·      Winter Formal Tickets are on sale now in the Student Store. Come by during snack or lunch to pick up your permission form. Ticket vouchers are also available on the ASB Webstore.

·      Hermosa Valley School is looking for HVS alumni to be Cabin Leaders for the 6th Grade Outdoor Science School in Malibu. Outdoor School will take place from Monday, Mar. 13 to Friday, Mar. 17. Cabin leaders can earn 100 community service hours. The applicant deadline is Friday, Jan. 27, so that we can have a crew and alternates in place. SPORTS

·     Swim Team Tryouts for all new and returning swimmers will be held Thursday, Jan. 26 at 2 pm. There will be a make-up tryout offered on Monday, Jan. 30 at 7:00 am. We want to encourage all swimmers, including club swimmers and water polo players, to try out and participate this season. CLUBS & ORGANIZATIONS

·     Come to Mental Health Awareness Club Tuesdays (TODAY) in Mr. Wheeler’s Room 22 to bring awareness about these struggles.

·     Come to Inalienable Club this Friday in Room 137 in the Math & Science building to discuss upcoming fund-raising. Help us defend the rights of migrants around the world!

·     It’s no longer about the American dream. It’s about the universal dream of harmony and inclusiveness. Join us at Club Harmony in Room 207 Thursday at lunch. Our first meeting’s guest speakers will be the Clinton family children.

·     Interested in competing in Computer Science? Do you know your Java? Come to Room 116 after school TODAY or during PM office hours on 1/25 and try out for the Codequest Team.

COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER

·      PSAT SCORE PICK-UP If you took the October 19th PSAT, your score sheets are now available for pick-up in the CCC.

·      SeniorsThe MCHS Scholarship Notebook Program will begin this month. If you wish to participate, you will be required to attend ONE of the MANDATORY January lunchtime meetings – LAST MEETING TODAY, 1/24. This program allows donors to view your notebook and award local community scholarships. Detailed information is available on the MCHS Website→College Tab→Senior-To-Do Tab. Please sign-up on Naviance to attend one of the meetings and bring $7 to purchase notebooks. 

·      FEATURED PROGRAM: Spring Break Tech Camps at CSU Dominguez Hills – Video Game Design & Animation.  Students will learn the step-by-step process for creating compelling digital illustrations under the guidance of instructor Robert Dillworth, a noted entertainment industry designer. Study Topics: History of computer games, designing an original character, storyboarding from idea to pencil and paper, animated effects using flash basics, designing backgrounds, and sound effects with Flash. ·      Career Speaker Series – Beginning this month! Professionals in various industries will visit the CCC to speak about their careers and the path they took to get there. This is a great opportunity to learn about different careers and the steps you need to take to gain opportunities for internships and to land your dream job. Please sign-up on Naviance or in the CCC. ·      SoCal Roc is now enrolling for the spring semester. Classes begin Monday, Feb. 6. Sign up in the CCC to speak with a SCROC advisor and pick up an application.
