BCHD Volunteering-allcove Youth Advisory Group (YAG)
 

Beach Cities allcove is looking for a group of young leaders to represent the diversity of the Beach Cities and surrounding communities across race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, lived experience, ability and socio-economic status. The Youth Advisory Group ensures that youth voices are at the forefront of the allcove Beach Cities center experience. As part of the Youth Advisory Group, you will help allcove Beach Cities gain a better understanding of young peoples’ needs and opinions to provide them with relevant and effective services.

Requirements:

  • 16-25 yrs old
  • Candidates from: Athens, Avalon, Carson, Catalina Island, El Segundo, Gardena, Harbor City, Hawthorne, Inglewood, Lawndale, Lennox, Long Beach, Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach, Palos Verdes Estates, Rancho Dominguez, Rancho Palos Verdes, Redondo Beach, Rolling Hills, Rolling Hills Estates, San Pedro, Torrance, Wilmington and others.
  • 1 year commitment, 6 hours per month.
  • Must sign/have a parent sign a volunteer agreement and participate in a BCHD orientation to participate.

Duties:

  • Be involved in community education activities, or as media spokespeople on the issue of youth mental health, to promote allcove and help to plan and execute seasonal events.
  • Contribute to the development of allcove center programs and services (i.e. peer support) and assist in their maintenance and sustainability.
  • Provide input on how allcove Beach Cities can improve the experience of young people who access services.
  • Brainstorm ideas on how to reach young people with the greatest needs within the Beach Cities and SPA 8.
  • Attend trainings on topics such as advocacy, mental health literacy, peer education, media or social media.
  • Support outreach and communications about allcove Beach Cities and events via social media, newsletters, public speaking and more, as well as content development including videos, photoshoots, flyers and presentations.

AdventurePlex Adventure Assistant (ongoing)

Must be 14+

One weekly shift with 6-month commitment

Shifts: Sat, 9am-12pm or 12pm-3pm and Sun 10am-1pm

TB test and drug screen required, background check if 18+

Duties:

  • Ensure children experience a fun, educational and safe environment by monitoring Adventure Room and/or Toddler Town
  • Maintain clean and safe environment in Toddler Town, Adventure Room, Patio, Restrooms, Reading Corner, Sport Court, Party Rooms, and Outdoor areas:
    • Picking up discarded toys and organizing areas for continued play
    • Sanitize toys or clean areas as needed
    • Notify staff of any spills, hazards and damaged or lost materials that need immediate attention
  • Assist with various activities (e.g.; Arts & Crafts, ropes course, rock climbing, Puppet Show, Costume Play, Story Time)
  • Assist Instructors with setting up and organizing activities during classes
  • Assist at the front desk with checking in/out parents and children when needed

Building & Safety Program Volunteer Opportunity
The City of Redondo Beach is proud to announce the implementation of volunteers in the Building & Safety Program. Through this program, students and/or residents work together with the City to preserve and improve life safety in residential neighborhoods and make Redondo Beach a better place to live and work. Since volunteers are the foundation of this program, concerned citizens will help protect the quality of life in Redondo Beach by assisting our Permit, Inspection, and Plan Review team efforts to better address the needs of all residents. Help us to keep our community beautiful by serving as a volunteer. We look forward to hearing from you and thank you for your help in advance. Building Inspection/Plan Check/Permit Tech Volunteers will assist Building Division staff with records reports, records requests, file management, and helping residents and community members on the phone or at the front counter. The Building Division provides building permits, plan checking, and inspection services for new construction, additions, and remodels throughout the City. Volunteers will gain invaluable knowledge of City processes and experience firsthand how projects progress to completion. The program is designed to accomplish the following:  To provide an understanding of the construction/ development process from design, plan review, permit issuance, inspection, and final.  Understand construction terminology and design elements.  Provide guidance to pursue a career as a building official, plan check engineer, building inspector, or permit technician.  Prepare the volunteer to become certified through the International Code Council (ICC) as a Certified Permit Technician, Residential or Commercial Building Inspector, or Plans Examiner. This volunteer position combines on-the-job training, mentoring, and self-home study to prepare for a career as a building code professional. By the end of the volunteer period, the volunteer will have a full understanding of the operation of the Building Division from permit intake, plan review, and building inspection to the final certificate of occupancy of both residential and commercial facilities. The volunteer will become familiar with the applicable California Residential and Building Codes. South Bay PONY Baseball is a community youth baseball league. Founded in Manhattan Beach in 1983, we are an all-volunteer organization that offers baseball to kids ages 4-14. We serve the entire South Bay of Los Angeles County, including Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach, El Segundo, Hawthorne, and Lawndale.
Our Opening Ceremonies and Celebration are Saturday, March 5th at Mira Costa. The event is held on the softball field near the tennis courts and snack stand. 
We will need help with supervision of the inflatables and bouncy houses from approximately 9:15am to 12:45 / 1:00pm. 
This would give students 3-4 hours of volunteer time.

Come paint on the walls at Art of Summer, a community Art studio in El Porto!
Art of Summer is a brand new studio focused on bringing the creative community of North Manhattan together and facilitating creative expression for youth.  As a new studio, there is a unique opportunity for volunteers to bring their own ideas to the table. It is a versatile space with endless possibilities. 
Growth opportunities include: 
- develop creative curriculum
-facilitate youth arts
-have studio time for your own creative projects
-learn about growing a small business
-practice social media marketing
-teach and explore new artistic techniques
-care for and prep the studio for open sessions 
Art of summer is a creative space where we paint on the walls, and are free to be the messy artists we are at heart.
Volunteer hours can be set around your schedule.
After school open studio sessions are 
MON 3-5, TUES 3-5, FRI 3-5, SAT 10-12  Additional hours are available.

South Bay Botanical Garden 
Help in our new butterfly pavilion, SOAR, and earn volunteer hours! We've extended our hours Thursday-Saturday for May and June and are looking for help from 3:45pm - 6:45pm each week. 

To give volunteering a try, please sign up and view open volunteer opportunities. These are our openings for one-time, temporary volunteers. No prior training is required but volunteers must be at least 15 years of age. Shifts are first come, first serve and are limited so please only sign up for shifts you know you can commit to. Due to limited capacity in the pavilion we have a limited capacity for volunteers.


Volunteers will be interacting with the public so make sure you feel comfortable talking with guests and standing for long periods of time before signing up.

Seeking responsible and reliable volunteers to assist in the following tasks at the Hermosa Beach Museum:

1. Day-to-day facilities maintenance (cleaning galleries, organizing work and storage space, assisting curator with moving displays, installing and uninstalling displays, other duties as assigned). Required: 14+, attention to detail, basic knowledge of tools and/or interest in learning, interest in history a plus
