Welcome to the PACE (ASB Student Support) Page!
PACE is Mira Costa’s student organized outreach program. The effectiveness of PACE is directly attributed to the fact that it involves students helping other students. The acronym stands for People Attaining Complete Equality. Our goal is to raise awareness of the issues that effect students in the present and the future. We stress our technique of not trying to put opinions of an issue directly onto the student body, but rather to simply inform them on the facts of the matter and allow them to develop their own insights. Our projects include drug awareness assemblies, poster campaigns, red ribbon week, hosting informative speakers on controversial issues, etc. The Friendship Circle Club (establishing friendships between the special education and general education student bodies) also is an ongoing crucial program of PACE, as all the planning and development of the Friendship Circle Club is coordinated by the dedicated students of ASB Student Support. Pace also contributes its time and efforts to working one on one with students struggling with substance abuse (if referred by counselor and/or teacher), mediating peer conflicts on campus, and providing social opportunities for those struggling in the high school environment.
This year, PACE has developed a wide range of programs for the 2009-2010 school year:
- Red Ribbon Week Awareness Activities
- Anti-Smoking Elementary School Puppet Show
- Eating Disorder Awareness
- Friendship Circle
- International Student Luncheon
- Safe Space
- MBMS Drug Awareness Lunch
- Statistical Poster Campaigns
- Conflict Mediations
- Holocaust Survivor Assembly
- Every 15 Minutes (On YouTube)
- And Many Many More...
