IF YOU PLAN ON ASKING FOR A LETTER OF REC, YOU MUST COMPLETE A SENIOR BRAG SHEET
All of the information on your Brag Sheet will assist the teachers, coaches, advisers and counselors when they are writing your letters of recommendation. A “good” letter of recommendation may make a difference in your acceptance to a college or your level of competency in a scholarship contest. Therefore, take your time to carefully respond to each question.
Before you request a letter of recommendation, please be sure the colleges you are applying to require them.
We have listed three major university systems below, along with their LOR requirements:
UC System: Does NOT require a letter or rec. (Exception: UC Berkeley may ask you for a letter AFTER you submit your application, and they have their own format – so you do NOT need to pre-emptively ask for a letter.)
CSU System: Does NOT require a letter of rec.
Private Universities and/or Out of State Public Universities: It depends on the school. Please refer to the application to see if a LOR is required. Many schools that use the Common Application (www.commonapp.org) will require a letter of rec, but please check each colleges website before assuming they need
-When answering the Brag Sheet questions, use complete sentences. The more information that you offer to your writer, the better the recommendation letter will be!
-Be sure to write a thank you note to each writer after the process is completed.
