Where can I see key calendar dates for next year?

You can view the 2024-2025 calendar here to get an understanding of a standard school year. Also, you can access the Mira Costa Homepage Calendar on our website and on our app that is kept up to date with all school events.

When and how will students schedule classes for next year? What does the process look like?

The process to pick classes at Mira Costa is highly collaborative. There are many incredible courses available to Mira Costa students, and the Counseling Team is a partner for families throughout the class selection process. Here is an brief month-by-month plan of the class selection process:

  • February – Mira Costa Counselors will host an 8th Grade Parent Welcome Night, where parents get information on scheduling and are introduced to staff.
  • March – Online course selection in Aeries opens.
  • May – Mira Costa Counselors visit MBMS, Hermosa Valley Middle School and American Martyrs to assist with 8th grade course selection. These are the classes available at Mira Costa. Also during this month, 10th-12th grade students new to Manhattan Beach Unified School District will have individual appointments with counselors. 9th grade students will have the opportunity to attend a new student workshop.
  • July – Parents/Guardians will receive an email to complete their student’s Data Confirmation in Aeries.
  • August – Before the first day of school, there will be on campus registration as well as 9th Grade and New Student (10th-12th grade) Orientation. At this time, students will be able to see their schedule in Aeries. Schedule changes and requests will be available via school correspondence.

What documents do we need to enroll in Mira Costa High School?

Please consult the New Student Enrollment Information page for information on what is required to enroll.

How do I provide my forms and additional information to Mira Costa?

You will bring the forms to the Mira Costa Office. In July, you will receive instructions for using Aeries and your login information to set up your account will be provided.

What transitional support is offered for freshmen and transfers to Mira Costa?

Besides the class selection counseling sessions prior to their first year at Mira Costa, all freshmen and transfers are invited to attend an orientation the week prior to school starting. All new students are assigned an existing Mira Costa student, LINK Crew Leader, and group at orientation. LINK Leaders will lead their new student groups in information sessions, tours and games to get everyone ready for their first day and excited to be a Mustang. LINK Leader groups also meet throughout the school year to check in and answer any questions which may come up. New Students are also invited to make an appointment or drop into the counseling office or the Student Union any time throughout the year for assistance.

When do student activities like sports and clubs begin?

There is something for everyone at Mira Costa. Each sport or performing and visual arts program has its own calendar for tryouts and start date. Please check out the various programs listed on the MBX website or on the Athletic Tryout & Information Sheet for information about the program and contact information. Prior to beginning a sports program, a physical exam and the registration paperwork will need to be completed annually to be eligible to participate.

Club activities kickoff in October with a Club Rush of all the available clubs during the school day. Students will have a chance to meet club leaders and sign up to participate in club activities. Students are also encouraged to read or listen to the Weekly Student Bulletin which provides up to date club information. There is truly a club for everyone.

What transportation options are available?

Students are encouraged to carpool, walk, ride or take public transportation to Mira Costa. School supplied transportation is not available. Parents who are driving their students are encouraged to avoid on campus drop off which can be highly congested and instead drop their student in the surrounding neighborhood and have students walk to campus. Also, students who plan to e-bike and park their e-bikes on campus are required to take an e-bike registration program. Finally, limited parking on campus is available via a lottery for seniors only. Seniors can enter the lottery for parking in Spring prior to their senior year. Otherwise on-street parking is available in the surrounding neighborhoods.

How can parents get involved?

There are a number of ways to get involved as a parent at Mira Costa. There are three not for profit organizations at Mira Costa, which rely on parent involvement and support for their success. They are the Mira Costa Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA), MBX Booster Clubs and the Manhattan Beach Education Foundation (MBEF). The PTSA posts volunteer opportunities weekly in their Monday newsletter to parents and also posts them on the Mira Costa Website. Once your child is a part of a Booster Club such as dance, drama, football, tennis and more, typically once your child is on the team roster, the Booster Presidents will invite you to a kickoff information session where details on how to get involved will be shared. Finally, opportunities to support MBEF will be shared in the PTSA Weekly Newsletter as well as on the MBEF website throughout the year.

Do you offer any programs during the summer?

Summer programs are offered on campus and online in partnership with MBX. For more details on the Summer program offerings check the MBX website. Many incoming freshmen take summer classes and this gives students an opportunity to get to know the Mira Costa campus before school begins. Other non-MBX summer programs are accepted at Mira Costa. Check with your student’s counselor for more details before enrolling in any non-MBX summer program. Please consult the Mira Costa High School Off Campus Guidelines for more information.

What are the technology requirements for students?

Mira Costa allows students to choose their own device for use in the classroom. If a student has a need for a device, a limited number of chrome books can be checked out from the Mira Costa library during the school year.
