·      This year’s “glow-in-the-dark” Homecoming Dance on Oct. 21 at 7 pm has been moved to the Fisher Gym. Come to the Student Store to fill out a form and pick up your tickets. ·      Attention poetry lovers: Mira Costa will be holding its seventh annual Poetry Out Loud competition Thursday, Jan. 18, 2018! Poetry Out Loud is a national poetry recitation contest in which students memorize and recite two famous poems from the Poetry Out Loud online anthology. Check out the anthology by visiting poetryoutloud.org. The winner of the competition will go on to compete at the county-level competition in February. If you are interested in competing, see your English teacher or Ms. Sieker for more information and an application. Applications are due to Ms. Sieker in Room 44 by Friday, Dec. 22. 

·      NEED COMMUNITY SERVICE? The folks on Skid Row desperately need hygiene kits. Two hygiene kits equal 1 hour of community service. ·      Come to Club Harmony in Room 207 at lunch on Monday and learn how to promote social inclusiveness!

·      Interested in joining the Mira Costa Badminton Team second semester? Come to Badminton Club to learn more! Our first meeting will be on Tuesday, Oct. 24 in Room 332 in the Math & Science building at lunch.

·      SoCal Roc is now enrolling for its 2nd quarter 9 week classes: Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.), Banking and Financial Services, and Business Entrepreneur. Classes begin November 6. Come to the CCC to sign up to speak with a SoCal Roc counselor and learn more about the interactive Career Technical classes that we offer.

·      Local Events Pacific Northwest College of Art Portfolio Days - Los Angeles Area on October 21, 2017 11am-3pm; California Institute of the Arts - 24700 McBean Parkway, Valencia, CA  91355. Our representatives want to see 10 to 15 examples of your best recent work (bring original pieces when possible). Digital portfolios are acceptable if it doesn’t limit the experience of your work. Include a variety of pieces that showcase your ideas, imagination, and talent. Keep it simple. There’s no need to spend time and money on frames or matting. All National Portfolio Days are free and open to the public, with a first-come, first-served format.
