STUDENT INFO

·      Poetry Out Loud applications are due to Ms. Sieker in Room 44 by 1 pm on Thursday, Dec. 21.

·      Independent Study Athletic (ISA) Students: REMINDER! First Semester Activity Logs AND Coach/Teacher Evaluations are due on or before Dec. 20!

·      Looking to play some Jazz at Mira Costa? Our second Jazz Band, Jazz II, is starting up in January. We have a brief information meeting TODAY at lunch starting at 12:20 in Room 4. Sign-ups are in Room 4 on the office door for all Guitar, Piano, Bass and Drum Set players who are interested.

COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER

·      JUNIORS & SENIORS: Northrop Grumman is offering Costa junior and senior students an opportunity to intern for the spring semester! The GPA eligibility is 3.0, and the program starts the first week in February through the end of May. Students will be onsite Monday through Thursday from 12:30 – 2:30pm or 1:30 – 3:30pm daily. Before you pick up the application, be sure your schedule will allow for this commitment. Please come by the CCC to pick up an application packet this week and sign up through Naviance for the MANDATORY information session TODAY during lunch (12:10pm).

·      SENIORS

Scholarship Notebook Program The scholarship notebook is a personal profile that will be read by members of community scholarship committees. Each scholarship committee creates their own criteria for selection and carefully screens the applicants to find the appropriate candidates for their scholarships. To be eligible to participate in the program students must attend ONE of the following four information meetings held in the CCC during lunch: Tuesday, Jan. 9, Thursday, Jan. 11, Thursday, Jan. 18, and Monday, Jan. 22. Sign up on Naviance prior to the meeting.

·      College Representative Visits In The CCC – If visit is during class please get teacher permission to attend. This is an opportunity to learn about your schools of interest and meet the admission counselors. View all visits and sign-up to attend on NAVIANCE.

o  Monday, 1/8 Claremont McKenna College Student Ambassador at 12:20pm (lunch).

o  Wednesday, 1/10 University of Iowa Student Ambassador at 9:27am (AM Office Hours); El Camino College at 9:27am and 12:26pm (AM and PM Office Hours)

·      Summer Programs: Eve and Gene Black Medical Internship

Medical Mentor/Internship Program: Students work under the supervision of a health care educator, shadowing various medical professionals (nurse, nutritionist, pharmacist, lab technician, physician and/or medical specialist, etc.) who together provide a range of patient care and services.

o  Age & Grade Requirement: Applications are accepted from high school students who are currently in the 11th or 12th grade AND born on or before 4/1/02 or meet the older age requirements of their selected facility. See Application and/or Facility Address & Requirement List for specific facility requirements.   

o  Program Dates: There are 2-, 3- and 4-week programs available from July 2 – Aug. 10, 2018. See Application and website for specific date information. Only the medical facilities listed on the application participate.

o  Submission Instructions and Application Deadline: The original set of required documents and one copy of this entire set must be sent by US Mail ONLY and mailed by Wednesday, FEBRUARY 21, 2018.

o  Applicant Notification: All students will be notified if accepted or not VIA EMAIL by Wednesday, April 4. If a student is not contacted by that date, they have NOT been accepted.

o  No Fee: There is NO FEE required to participate and if a financial need exists, a selected participant may request a stipend to cover program expenses, such as transportation.  Applications are available at:  http://www.lapedsoc.org/summer or in the CCC.

·      SoCalRoc: SoCal Roc is now enrolling for the Spring 2018 semester. Classes begin January 29. The SoCalRoc Counselor is available in the CCC every Monday from 8:30 – 10:30 am. Please sign up in the CCC to meet with her or drop in for more information about SoCalRoc class offerings.
