WED 1/17 Community Coffee with the Principal at 7:30 am in the Admin Office; Drill Schedule 4th period (see website – no office hours)

 


STUDENT INFO

·      Club Day is next Wednesday, January 17, at lunch in the quad. Don’t forget to bring money!

·      Attention all students: Talent Show auditions are on Friday, Jan. 19 beginning at 3 pm in the Mira Costa Auditorium. Please stop by the ASB room or see a senior class officer for a talent show form.

·      New Date! A small and intimate Poetry Out Loud competition is taking place in Ms. Sieker’s Room 44 this Wednesday, Jan. 10 during PM Office Hours. If your friends are competing, and you want to cheer them on, or if you are a poetry lover and just want to watch, seats for audience members are available on a first come, first served basis.

·      The Library will be closed Thursday, Jan. 11 for hearing screening (11th grade). Sorry for the inconvenience.

SPORTS

·      Girls’ Beach Volleyball Tryouts will be Wednesday and Friday, January 17 & 19, from 2:15 to 4:15 pm at 2nd Street in Manhattan Beach. It is only necessary to attend one of the two tryout dates. Questions? Contact Michele Reilly at [email protected].

·      Swimming tryouts will be Wednesday, Jan. 17 at 3 pm at the pool. Makeup will be Monday, Jan. 22 at 7 am.

CLUBS & ORGANIZATIONS

·      Social & Emotional Wellness Committee invites ALL STUDENTS to attend a Teacher Fishbowl. This is a rare opportunity to hear about teacher stress and wellness! Come to the small theater during AM Office Hours this Wednesday, 1/10.

·      Come to Science Olympiad Wednesday at lunch in Mr. Locke’s Room 352B!

COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER

·      PSAT SCORES – If you took the PSAT in October, your detailed score sheets and test booklets are now available in the CCC for pick-up.

·      PSAT, Now What? Presentation – Tuesday, Jan. 23, 5:30pm in the CCC.

The PSAT is a student’s first step in the standardized testing and college application process. When utilized properly, the PSAT can propel students on their journey to college. Learn how to interpret the PSAT score report, what your child’s PSAT scores indicate about their future SAT/ACT performance, how the National Merit Scholarship Competition works, and more. Jean Stroud, Academic Advisor at Revolution Prep, will explain. Please bring your student’s PSAT scores. Both parents and students are encouraged to attend.   Please sign-up on the MCHS WebsiteCollege TabCCC Calendar and click on the event.

·      SENIORS

Scholarship Notebook Program The scholarship notebook is a personal profile that will be read by members of community scholarship committees. Each scholarship committee creates their own criteria for selection and carefully screens the applicants to find the appropriate candidates for their scholarships. To be eligible to participate in the program students must attend ONE of the following four information meetings held in the CCC during lunch: Tuesday, Jan. 9, Thursday, Jan. 11, Thursday, Jan. 18, and Monday, Jan. 22. You must sign up on Naviance prior to the meeting to be admitted.

·      El Camino Assessment Testing at MCHSJan. 31 at 11:45am. (This is during class time, so please clear with your teachers.)  If you are planning to attend El Camino this fall, you can take advantage of this on-campus testing session. To take the test you must have an El Camino College student ID number (you receive this ID number when you apply to El Camino College). Seating is limited; please sign up on Naviance for a spot.

·      College Representative Visits In The CCC – If visit is during class please get teacher permission to attend. This is an opportunity to learn about your schools of interest and meet the admission counselors. View all visits and sign up to attend on NAVIANCE.

·      SoCalRoc: SoCal Roc is now enrolling for the Spring 2018 semester. Classes begin January 29. The SoCalRoc Counselor is available in the CCC every Monday from 8:30 – 10:30 am. Please sign up in the CCC to meet with her or drop in for more information about SoCalRoc class offerings.
