STUDENT INFO

·      Scholar Quiz Registration opens February 7 at 6:45am. NEW this year: ON-LINE registration at https://www.miracostahigh.org/apps/form/form.MIRCOSHS.qHectyo.hA. Selections will be made on a first come, first served basis, regardless of grade, and will be time stamped upon on line registration. The Scholar Quiz dates are March 13, 14, 15, 16, 19, 21Only 64 teams will be guaranteed entry. All others will be placed on a list of alternates. Questions? ·      Attention Students: This Friday is the last day to purchase Winter Formal tickets, so make sure to head over to the Student Store!

·      AP Students: Don’t forget to sign up to register to take your AP exams TODAY during lunch only at the student store. Please bring your completed blue worksheet and a pen to complete the actual registration form. Checks ($99 for each exam) should be made payable to MCHS. Online registration is also available now. Go to ASB Webstore on the MCHS website. A credit card is required, and there is a small convenience fee for online registration.

·      Attention Students! If you want to sign up for the Blood Drive, come see Mrs. Claypoole in Room 40/41. 

·      Buy your Talent Show tickets with Mrs. Claypoole or senior class officers. Price is $4 with ASB sticker, $5 without sticker and $6 at the door.

·      NEED COMMUNITY SERVICE? Lunches with Love is collecting bagged hygiene kits and SOCKS for delivery to the Union Rescue Mission. They have an unprecedented number of women, children and families. ·      See cool photographs destroyed and made new! Advanced Photo Art Installation in Room 60 at lunch TODAY through Thursday! Destroy – Restroy – Destroy – Restroy! DESTROY RESTROY!

·      It’s CSF time again! The California Scholarship Federation membership drive runs now and ends on Friday, Feb. 2. Applications may be picked up in Room 243. If you don’t know what CSF is all about, please come to Room 243 at snack or lunch during the membership drive to ask questions.

CLUBS & ORGANIZATIONS

·      Need stress relief? Come check out some cute pictures, drawings, and paintings of animals and enjoy free snack! Feb. 5-9 in Room 60. Sponsored by your Animal Shelter Club.

·      Come to Support Our Students this Thursday in Room 234 to learn how to help chronically ill or injured Mira Costa students. Beckers cookies are included!

·      Are you an artist, photographer, poet or writer? Get your personal pieces published in Costa’s Literary Magazine, Reflections, by submitting them to [email protected] and coming to Room 207 Mondays at lunch!

·      Come to Drama Club every Wednesday (TODAY) during lunch in Room 1 to learn about all things drama from the Drama/Tech Department!

·      Join us Tuesdays in Mr. Piper’s Room 203 of the history building to learn about fun community service opportunities sponsored by the South Bay Food Initiative.

·      Mira Costa Adventure Club: Stargazing, winter camping, and bungee jumping – a whole lot is coming our way spring 2018. Join us this Thursday in Mr. Robertson’s Room 333 to get in on the action!

COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER

·      Juniors Boys: American Legion’s Boys State Program is seeking applicants. American Legion Boys State is among the most respected and selective educational programs of government instruction for U.S. high-school students. It is a participatory program in which students become part of the operation of local, county and state government. If selected, students attend the week-long program at Sacramento State University beginning on June 16, 2018. For more information visit: https://www.legion.org/boysnation/stateabout. If you are interested in being considered for the Boys State program, please stop by the CCC to pick up an application. Completed applications are due in the CCC by Tuesday, February 13.

·      College Admissions Panel for Out of State and International Schools on Feb. 6, 5:30 to 7PM in the CCC.

Please join representatives from the University of New Mexico, Arizona State University, Syracuse, and the American University of Paris for an informational evening on an out-of-state college experience. With thousands of options available, helping students decide where to attend college can be a challenging task. However this presentation will pave the road to refining choices and how to pay for it!! The informative and entertaining workshop covers in-state choices, out-of-state possibilities, the top reasons students choose a college, the various costs, financial aid and scholarship opportunities - merit, need or both! ·      SoCalRoc: SoCal Roc is now enrolling for the spring 2018 semester. Classes began Jan. 29. The SoCalRoc Counselor is available in the CCC every Monday from 8:30 – 10:30 am. Please sign up in the CCC to meet with her or drop in for more information about SoCalRoc class offerings.

·      FREE SAT/ACT PRACTICE TEST Revolution Prep is offering a FREE full-length practice ACT and SAT at Mira Costa High School on Saturday, March 3rd at 9am-1pm - choose either ACT or SAT. To register go to:  https://www.revolutionprep.com/partners/practice-exams/school/61/. Bring:  pencils, calculator, water and a snack.  Questions – Call Jean Stroud at 818-217-0951.
