STUDENT INFO

·         PHYSICAL FITNESS TESTING for current 10th and 11th grade students: Due to the SBAC testing and class schedule change, please come to the foyer of the Gym on your assigned day. We will be testing from 7:00 am to 2:45 pm on Wednesday, May 23 and Thursday, May 24.

·         See the best student films from around the country by joining us at the 18th annual South Bay Student Video Festival TONIGHT! Doors at the Small Theater open at 6:30 pm.

·         Dodgeball Tournament sign-ups end TODAY in the ASB Room 40 at lunch. The tournament starts May 21. Teams need to be 6 players + 1 alternate.

·         Digital Photography Show this week during lunch in the Gallery Room 60! Cool photographs to amaze you! Come to the Gallery during lunch to see amazing photographs.

·         Prom 2018 “Bright Lights, Big City” will be held June 2, 2018 at the Belasco Theater in Los Angeles. Purchase your tickets now at the Student Store or purchase a ticket voucher at the ASB Web Store https://mchswebstore.myschoolcentral.com. ·         TONIGHT is Art Night, an evening of arts and crafts. All students are welcome to attend, and sell their artwork or crafts. Activities include button making, T-shirt screen printing and face painting. Friends and family are also invited. The event will take place at Mira Costa outside Room 109 from 5-7 pm. ·         Costa Pride Day is almost here! Need Volunteer hours? Want to help beautify Costa? We need lots of volunteers for Costa Pride Day tomorrow, Saturday, May 19. We have plants to plant and clean up and beautification that need your help to transform our campus! Show your Mustang Pride by coming to help make Costa’s campus look great! Meet at the Cafeteria beforehand to receive instructions. Pride Day runs from 8:30 am – 12:00 pm (NEW TIME). Please contact Laurel Ulrich with questions: [email protected].

COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER

·         COLLEGE APPLICATION 101 SERIES IN THE CCC – Sign up on Naviance.

o   Wednesday, 5/23 at 3:00pm – Learn About Liberal Arts Colleges

o   Thursday, 5/24 at 2:00pm How to Maximize Your Summer/Timeline for College Apps. 

College applications don’t have to be overwhelming! This workshop will break down the college application process into small, approachable steps, and give you a timeline of what you should be doing during each month. Use your summer to get ahead in the process, and reduce your stress!

o   Wednesday, 5/30 at 5:00pm Understanding the Selective College Admission Process

o   Thursday, 5/31 at 2:00pm Essay Writing Workshop

o   Tuesday, 6/5 at 5:30pm International College Options

This series will be most helpful for juniors and their parents, however all grade levels are welcome to attend!

·         JUNIOR PARENTS: Creating a College List TODAY, Thursday, May 17 at 6pm in the CCC. Your students have all heard this information before, but the CCC wants to ensure that families also understand the benefits of creating a comprehensive college list. Please join us, no sign-up necessary.

·         SENIORS: *Important* All graduating seniors are required to complete the Senior Clearance process by submitting their post-high school plans. Please complete the following steps and BRING COPIES OF ALL THREE DOCUMENTS to the CCC by TODAY, May 18

If you are planning to enter a 4-year or Community College:

1.      Updated Naviance college admissions results page. (Go to the College tab. For colleges that you did NOT end up applying to, mark as “withdrawn.” For colleges that you applied to and did not get into, mark “denied.” For colleges you applied to and got into, mark “accepted.” Finally, indicate which school you are going to attend at the bottom of the page.

2.      Completed senior survey (on Naviance, under the “About Me” tab)

3.      Acceptance letter from the school you will be attending. This process will ensure that your final transcript will be sent to the school you plan to attend in the fall.

If you are planning to work, enter the military, take a gap year, or travel:

1.      Stop in the CCC to let us know your plans.

·         SoCal Roc is now enrolling for an El Camino Summer Bridge course (classes begin July 9) and the Fall 2018 semester (classes beginning September 10). Come to the CCC to sign up and learn more about the Summer Bridge course and the classes we offer.
