STUDENT INFO           

·      Attention Seniors: If you have a current parking permit/tag, you must park ONLY in unmarked spots in the student lot. Students who park in staff spots will be ticketed and called out of class to move their vehicles. If you do not have a parking permit, you may not park in any of the campus lots.

·      Off Grounds Stickers are available in the admin office this week for students who have an excused period (other than a zero period). Come to the office before or after school, or during snack or lunch ONLY.  

·      Attention Students: Thanks to all students who participated in the first monthly Class War competition: Dodgeball! In 4th place, Juniors; in 3rd place, Freshmen; in 2nd place, Sophomores and 1st, Seniors! The next class war competition will be on Friday, Sept. 28 at lunch.

·      Calling all artists! Want your work published? Interested in editorial cartoons? Creating art for creative news spreads? La Vista is looking for contributing artists. Stop by Room 101 for details or email [email protected].

SPORTS

·      Track Tryouts will be held after school TODAY from 3 – 4:15 pm. Meet at the track at the Finish Line.

·      Any student who is interested in trying out for Boys’ Golf this year can see Coach Cox this week in Room 410 during lunch or during PM Office Hours.

·      Girls’ Lacrosse tryouts are this week, TODAY through Friday, Sept. 7, 3:00 – 4:30 pm on the West Field. No experience necessary. Bring cleats, running shoes, lacrosse stick, goggles and mouth guard. Email Amanda Cross, [email protected], with questions.

CLUBS AND ORGANIZATIONS

·      Mira Costa Gender Sexuality Alliance meets every Thursday in Room 23 during lunch. Meet a group of loving and supporting people, engage in activist work to help make campus a more accepting environment, and raise funds for various organizations.

·      Math Club meetings are held every Tuesday at lunch. Come to Room 131 if you want to improve your skills, learn new concepts, and compete against other mathletes! All levels of math are welcome.

·      Do you want to learn about Filipino culture, language and food? If so, come to Filipino Club every Thursday in Mr. Nodado’s Room 342 to learn about the Philippines and eat Filipino food. Everyone is welcome!

·      Attention all Club Presidents! Come to Room 41 this week to pick up Club Day and Homecoming nomination forms!

·      Want to learn about and discuss Philosophy? Come to Ms. Cabrera’s Room 45 on Wednesdays (TODAY) at lunch.

·      The American Sign Language Club has its first meeting this Friday, Sept. 7 in Room 74! Come join us to learn about this beautiful visual language!

·      NHS-Eligible Candidates: Forms for consideration for this year’s National Honor Society are due this Friday, 9/7 by 3 pm. Please see the email in your mbusdapps accounts for details.

·      Get in touch with your inner Moana at the Pacific Islanders Club Wednesdays (TODAY) at lunch in Room 44.

·      College Representative Visits In The CCC – If visit is during class please get teacher permission to attend. This is an opportunity to learn about your schools of interest and meet the admission counselors. View all visits and sign-up to attend on NAVIANCE. Please bring your school ID.

·      Internship Opportunity Information Session on Thursday, 9/6 at 12:20pm in the CCC – Learn more about interning for the campaign to re-elect Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi, who represents the South Bay in the California State Assembly. This is a wonderful opportunity for students interested in politics to participate in a high-profile and targeted race. Students who complete the internship program requirements will gain valuable exposure to a career in campaigns, politics, and government.  They will also receive a letter of recommendation from Assemblymember Muratsuchi.

·      SENIORSVisit the CCC for College Application Assistance:

o   College Personal Statement Revision- Please bring in a hard-copy of your essay if you would like feedback from one of the counselors. Typically essays are completed within 2-3 business days.

o   Walk-in Wednesdays for help with applications, essay revisions and to have your questions answered! No appointment necessary. Walk-In Hours are on Wednesdays, from 3PM to 5PM.

·      JUNIORS AND SOPHOMORES – REGISTER ONLINE NOW FOR THE PSAT -DEADLINE TO REGISTER IS  Friday, Sept. 7Cost is $25 The test will begin at 7:00am on Oct. 10 at MCHS. To register online, please go the MCHS website and click on the PSAT icon. After you register online, bring your receipt to the CCC to pick up your PSAT Study Guide. In-person registration will be available September 4 – 7 in the CCC; payment by check, made out to MCHS, or cash only. Please contact the CCC with any questions – ext. 5253.

·      SoCal Roc is now enrolling for the fall 2018 semester. Classes begin Sept. 10. Come to the CCC to sign up and learn more about the classes we offer.
