TODAY 9/7 Last day for PSAT Walk-In Registration in the CCC; Off-Grounds Stickers available in the admin office before or after school and at lunch and snack ONLY (You must have your ID.)

STUDENT INFO           

·      We have a few Prom 2018 Photos at the front desk in the Office. If you did not receive your pictures, come by to pick them up! Tell your graduated friends, as well.

·      Attention Students: Would you like to get some free quality tutoring help with your studies? Would you just like a place to study quietly after school? Either way, the afterschool peer tutoring program and Study Hall is for you! The program for this year begins this week. We will use Room 23, Mr. Zeoli’s room, until the library reopens. Tutoring/Study Hall will be from 3-5 pm Monday through Thursday every week. Juniors and Seniors: We need good tutors. If you are interested in earning easy community service credit, come see us (Mr. McAvin or Mr. Zeoli) in Room 23 after school.

·      Come see the first art show of the year. AP Studio Art presents “Mom and Dad Liked It.” The show is open TODAY through Sept. 21 in the Gallery, Room 60.

·      COSTA RICA Spring Break 2019 meeting at lunch on Wednesday, 9/12 in Room 72 with The Geczis. Pura Vida!

·      Attention Seniors: If you have a current parking permit/tag, you must park ONLY in unmarked spots in the student lot. Students who park in staff spots will be ticketed and called out of class to move their vehicles. If you do not have a parking permit, you may not park in any of the campus lots.

·      Off Grounds Stickers are available in the admin office this week for students who have an excused period (other than a zero period). Come to the office before or after school, or during snack or lunch ONLY.  

SPORTS

·      Any student who is interested in trying out for Boys’ Golf this year can see Coach Cox TODAY in Room 410 during lunch or during PM Office Hours.

·      Girls’ Lacrosse tryouts end TODAY, Sept. 7, 3:00 – 4:30 pm on the West Field. No experience necessary. Bring cleats, running shoes, lacrosse stick, goggles and mouth guard. Email Amanda Cross, [email protected], with questions.

CLUBS AND ORGANIZATIONS

·      In need of community service hours or just want to make new friends? Come to Key Club in Room 48 on Tuesday, Sept. 11! Donut holes will be provided!

·      Come to Room 40 every (full-length) Friday (TODAY) for tabletop, board and video games at the Game Club!

·      Mira Costa Gender Sexuality Alliance meets every Thursday (TODAY) in Room 23 during lunch. Meet a group of loving and supporting people, engage in activist work to help make campus a more accepting environment, and raise funds for various organizations.

·      Math Club meetings are held every Tuesday at lunch. Come to Room 131 if you want to improve your skills, learn new concepts, and compete against other mathletes! All levels of math are welcome.

·      Attention all Club Presidents! Come to Room 41 TODAY to pick up Club Day and Homecoming nomination forms!

·      NHS-Eligible Candidates: Forms for consideration for this year’s National Honor Society are due TODAY, 9/7 by 3 pm. Please see the email in your mbusdapps accounts for details.

COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER

·      Schedule a one-on-one appointment with one of our credentialed college counselors. Call 310-318-7337 ext. 5253 or email [email protected].

·      College Representative Visits In The CCC – If visit is during class please get teacher permission to attend. This is an opportunity to learn about your schools of interest and meet the admission counselors. View all visits and sign-up to attend on NAVIANCE. Please bring your school ID.

o   TODAY, 9/7 Georgia Tech at 8:00am, SMU at 9am, UCLA at 10:23am, University of Michigan at 11:25am, Emory University at 12:20pm (lunch).

o   TUESDAY, 9/11University of the Pacific at 10:23am, Whittier College at 11:25am, University of Delaware at 12:20pm(lunch), University of Kansas at 1:00pm.

·      SENIORSVisit the CCC for College Application Assistance:

o   College Personal Statement Revision – Please bring in a hard-copy of your essay if you would like feedback from one of the counselors. Typically essays are completed within 2-3 business days.

o   Walk-in Wednesdays for help with applications, essay revisions and to have your questions answered! No appointment necessary. Walk-In Hours are on Wednesdays, from 3PM to 5PM.

·      PSAT TESTING FOR JUNIORS AND SOPHOMORES – *Registration Deadlines*

Regular registration closes at 3:00pm TODAY, September 7. Cost is $25

Late registration is available through Tuesday, September 11. Cost is $35                                

The test will begin at 7:00am on October 10 at MCHSTo register online, please go the MCHS website and click on the PSAT icon. After you register online, bring your receipt to the CCC to pick up your PSAT Study Guide. To register in person – Registration is available in the CCC until 3:00PM – Payment by check made out to MCHS or cash only.   Please contact the CCC with any questions. 

·      Local Events: University of Michigan Information Session Sunday, Sept. 9 at the Los Angeles Marriott Burbank Airport. Registration will be from 2:30 - 3:00pm with the info session from 3 - 4pm. The hotel will charge a discounted $16 (self-parking rate) for on-site parking. ·      SoCal Roc is now enrolling for the fall 2018 semester. Classes begin Monday, Sept. 10. Come to the CCC to sign up and learn more about the classes we offer.
