STUDENT INFO           

·      Hall of Fame is here! Our induction will be this Friday, Sept. 21! Congratulations to: John Jackson, Class of 1977; Barbra Fontana, Class of 1983; Walter Turk, Class of 1953; and Elka Worner, Class of 1980.

·      Art Night is back for a second year! All students are invited to sell their artwork or crafts at the 2nd annual fall Art Night. Sign up at: http://bit.ly/costaartnight. There will also be crafts for all to participate in. Art Night at Mira Costa will be held October 12, 5-7pm in the quad outside room 109. All students, faculty and staff are invited to bring friends and family for a fun evening of art!

·      MB Hometown Fair Art Exhibit – Attention Costa students: Enter your artwork by the deadline, Oct. 2 for exhibition at the Hometown Fair Oct. 6 & 7. Submissions may be in 2D, 3D, photography or fiber artwork. The application can be found at this link: http://www.mbfair.org/applications/.

·      The fall California Scholarship Federation (CSF) Membership Drive is happening now and will end on Friday, Sept. 28. Membership is open to 10th, 11th and 12th grade students who are eligible, based on their excellent grades received in June. To find out if you are eligible, come to Room 243 during the membership drive at snack, lunch or PM Office Hours for more information. Sorry freshmen, you will be eligible for associate membership in February.

CLUBS AND ORGANIZATIONS

·      Attention Cyber Patriot members: There is a meeting on Wednesday during lunch in Mrs. Weaver’s Room 112. There will also be an amazing training on Wednesday from 3-5 pm about creating Scripts run by BeachCoders. Don’t miss it!

·      Interested in building and competing with a solar powered boat? Come to the Solar Cup meeting in Mrs. Weaver’s Room 112 on Tuesday at lunch to learn more.

·      Come to Young Democrats Club on Fridays in Mr. Piper’s Room 203! We will be discussing plans for the rest of the year and the upcoming Nov. 6 election! There will also be information about internships for Assembly Member Al Muratsuchi.

·      Interested in women’s empowerment? Join S Club for easy community service hours every Monday in Room 16!

·      Math Club meetings are held every Tuesday at lunch. Come to Room 131 if you want to improve your skills, learn new concepts, and compete against other mathletes! All levels of math are welcome.

·      Are you interested in Law? Do you want to be part of a fun, rewarding, and informative team? Then join Mock Trial! See Mr. Zeoli in Room 23 for more details.

·      Want to take part in science events and filed trips? Then come on over to Chemistry Club. Our first meeting is this Friday, 9/21!

·      Come join the Pink Ribbon Club TODAY in Ms. Gesualdi’s Room 331!

·      Mira Costa Gender Sexuality Alliance meets every Thursday (TODAY) at lunch in Room 23. Meet a group of loving and supporting people, engage in activist work to help make campus a more accepting environment, and raise funds for various charities and organizations.

·      Join us in Room 207 for Creative Writing Club: a chance to compose poems, play with language, and meet interesting people! Mondays at lunch.

COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER

·      College Knowledge Night – Wednesday, September 26 at 6:15pm in the Auditorium. Meet in the Auditorium for a preview with the College and Career Counselors. You will then be directed to attend two break-out information sessions (6:30-7:20pm and 7:30-8:20pm). Break-out session topics are: Financial Aid, Community College Transfer Programs, Testing – SAT vs. ACT, Gap Year Options, NCAA, Personal Statements/College Essays. We look forward to seeing you!

·      College Representative Visits In The CCC – If visit is during class please get teacher permission to attend. This is an opportunity to learn about your schools of interest and meet the admission counselors. View all visits and sign-up to attend on NAVIANCE. Please bring your school ID.

·      SENIORSVisit the CCC for College Application Assistance:

o   College Personal Statement Revision – Please bring in a hard-copy of your essay if you would like feedback from one of the counselors. Typically essays are completed within 2-3 business days.

o   Walk-in Wednesdays for help with applications, essay revisions and to have your questions answered! No appointment necessary. Walk-In Hours are on Wednesdays, from 3PM to 5PM.

·      Local Events: Tufts UniversityThursday, September 20 at 7:00pm at Sage Hill School, 20402 Newport Coast Drive, Newport Beach, CA  92657-0300 A behind-the-scenes look at the selective admissions process, Who gets in and why, an interactive workshop designed by the Tufts University Office of Undergraduate Admissions will explain the process. ·      Testing

o   Revolution Prep is offering a FREE full-length SAT and ACT practice on campus Saturday, 9/29/2018

Time: SAT – 9am to 1:15pm, ACT – 9am to 1pm; SAT – Room 14 and ACT – Room 16

Essay: Optional (students not staying for the essay will be dismissed about 45 minutes earlier)

Bring: Calculator, #2 pencils, snack, water and a cell phone (The students will download a phone app and score their tests on site)
