·         Mira Costa’s AP Capstone program is a new 2-year program designed to teach students the art and discipline of research. The 2019-2020 program will focus on Social and Restorative Justice, right in time for the 2020 election cycle. Run as a 7th-period class, the Capstone program is a flexibly-scheduled online and in-person hybrid open to incoming sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Individual discipline is vitally important, but highly rewarding. Get a head start of the skills used with Mrs. Cabrera’s MBX summer course: Informal Logic and Critical Thinking (open to all interested students). Applications for AP Capstone are due May 3 and can be found at Mrs. Cabrera’s faculty page on the school website.

·         To see AP Capstone work in action, join AP Research (year 2 students) as they present their year-long research projects in an informal Poster Session in the MPR at lunch on Monday, 4/15. Topics range from Eastern and Western classifications of beauty, to the influence of 80s films on cultural identities, to the ethical programming for self-driving cars, and more! Those interested in the program may also stop by Room 45 to pick up information and the application for the program!

·         Independent Study Athletics (ISA) applications for the 2019-20 school year are now on the school’s website under ATHLETICS. All applications are due on or before May 15, 2019.

·         Applications for Mira Costa’s La Vista Newspaper staff are available now. Any student interested in applying to join Mira Costa’s award-winning newspaper must submit an application (available in Room 101) to Ms. Sweeny by no later than Friday, April 12. Students interested in joining the staff should have prior Journalism experience (an A or B in Intro to Journalism or a summer school Journalism course, through MBX or a local community college). If students plan to take Journalism over the summer through MBX, note that on the top of the application. Please email [email protected] with any questions.
