·         The 19th Annual MCHS Art Show is coming up, and it’s time to vote for the People’s Choice Award! This award is sponsored by South Bay Magazine. Vote online and then see the art at the reception on May 3 at Resin Gallery in Hermosa Beach: https://southbay.goldenstate.is/9x12-mchs-art-show/.

·         Congratulations to the newly admitted students for next year’s Biotech Class. The list is posted in the Biotech Classroom Room 352, Mrs. Allen’s Room 234 and Mr. Nodado’s Room 342.

·         Submission deadline for the Neptunian Woman’s Club of MB 40th Annual Art and Photography Contest is 3:00 pm, Friday, May 10. No class projects. A ceremony will be held in the Neptunian Clubhouse Sunday, May 19 at 1:00 pm for exhibiting student artists. Entry form with rules online at www.neptunians.org/nwc-art-show.

·         JUNIORS: There is a new English Senior Seminar, Noir Lit of LA. It is about detectives, femme fatales, double crossers, Film Noir and Los Angeles; developed and taught by Dr. Hofreiter. Please join her for an informational meeting during AM Office Hours TODAY in Room 15. There is a form to fill out in your email account to sign up for this class. “This class is so evil that it is awesome!”—Doc Hof

·         The annual Honor Roll Recognition Lunch, sponsored by MCHS PTSA is TODAY in the driveway next to the Math & Science Building (please note this new location). Freshmen and Sophomores, enter from the Math & Science Building; Juniors and Seniors, enter from East Locker Hall area. All eligible students must bring current Mira Costa ID to the Auditorium between 9:30 – 11:30am to pick up a ticket. ONE TICKET will be given to each student; lost tickets will not be replaced. This event is for students who earned a GPA of 3.5 or higher last semester. In-N-Out will serve lunch starting at 11:10 am. Grilled cheese sandwiches are also available.  

·         Link Crew selections have been made! Acceptance letters are being delivered to homerooms this week, but please also check the email you listed on your application and/or the list on room 20’s door to see if you’ve been accepted. THERE ARE ADDITIONAL STEPS TO COMPLETE BY THIS FRIDAY! If you don’t complete the final steps, your position will be offered to another interested student. Thank you to all who applied!

·         Students, have you ordered your yearbook? Not Sure? Check for your name on the grade level list on our website. If you find that you have not ordered, you can do so on the Mira Costa ASB Web Store, https://mchswebstore.myschoolcentral.com or by check or cash in the ASB Finance Office at the student store. Price is currently $110 w/ASB or $120. Price rises to $125 on May 1 for ALL students. We will take orders only until May 31. After May 31, yearbooks (if available) will be sold for $125 cash after the distribution period begins. Questions? Contact Mrs. Cessor in the ASB Finance Office.

·         All students who have ever taken an Engineering course with Mrs. Weaver are now eligible to receive FREE credits from El Camino. Please see Mrs. Weaver in Room 112 to receive information on how to receive the credits.

·         THE DROWSY CHAPERONE, Mira Costa Drama/Tech’s Spring Musical, opens Friday, 4/26 at 7:30 pm in the Auditorium! Pre-sale tickets are on sale now – students/seniors $10 and adults $15! ·         Attention Next Year’s Seniors 2019-2020! Registration has begun for student parking lottery for the 2019-2020 school year. Interested students should register online at the MCHS ASB Web Store. There is no cost to sign up, and you will receive a receipt for registration. Please review the Parking Permit Guidelines posted on the MCHS Website before registering. *Please note: This is a lottery for students who will be seniors ONLY. It is NOT first come/first served. If you are selected, you will be notified via email and provided further instructions. Any students having difficulty registering online, contact Donna Cessor in the ASB Finance Office.

SENIORS

·         Buy your Senior Grad Nite Ticket TODAY! Tickets increase by $20 on May 1! The party is substance-free and provides a safe environment for graduates to celebrate together one last time. Attendees are bused to a secret, private venue, where they may participate in games, music, dancing, and many other surprise activities. Visit the school website for tickets and more info.

CLUBS AND ORGANIZATIONS

·         All Clubs, please pick up your forms for Club Day from Room 40 or 41! The final Club Day of the school year will be next Wednesday, May 1.

·         Come to American Sign Language (ASL) Club this Friday, Room 74, to learn new signs and make new friends. Can’t wait to see you there!

·         Drama Club Elections Meeting: Come TODAY at lunch in Room 1 for special announcements about running for next year’s Drama Board positions.

·         Math Club: The last math competition of the year is coming up on May 1! Contact [email protected] for more information and to sign up. All levels of mathletes are welcome.

·         Are you interested in our Criminal Justice System? Do you want to become a lawyer or build strong presentation and public speaking skills to show to colleges? Then the Mock Trial Club is right for you! Come to Mr. Zeoli’s Room 23 during AM Office Hours TODAY for more information.

COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER

·      Schedule a one-on-one appointment with one of our credentialed college counselors. Call 310-318-7337 ext. 5253 or email [email protected]. *Juniors – the Spring Semester is an ideal time to meet with a CCC Counselor.

·      College Representative Visits In The CCC – If visit is during class please get teacher permission to attend. This is an opportunity to learn about your schools of interest and meet the admission counselors. View all visits and sign-up to attend on NAVIANCE. Please bring your school ID.

o     TODAY, 4/24 – Want to Become a Paralegal?  Learn about the Paralegal Program offered at El Camino College at 12:26pm (PM Office Hours) in the CCC.

·         Juniors – Case Study College Night and College Mini Fair Tuesday, May 14; check-in begins at 5:00pm and case studies start promptly at 5:30pm. 11th-Grade students and their parents are invited to participate in a mock admissions evening where you will meet in small groups with an experienced admissions officer who will lead a discussion on what colleges look for in an applicant, as well as what every college values. Students will learn first-hand how they will be evaluated, which can help them begin thinking of the qualities and strengths they possess and what they will need to do to prepare for the application process. Space for the Case Study event is limited to 150 11th-grade students and one parent per family, please sign up on Naviance. All grade levels are invited to the College Mini Fair that will be held immediately after the case studies, at 6:45pm in the Cafeteria.

·      Seniors: Please complete the following steps and BRING COPIES to the CCC by May 10:

-If you are planning to enter a 4-year or Community College

1. BRING COPY Updated Naviance college admissions results page. (Go to the College tab. For colleges that you did NOT end up applying to, mark as “withdrawn.” For colleges that you applied to and did not get into, mark “denied.” For colleges you applied to and got into, mark “accepted.” Finally, indicate which school you are going to ATTEND at the bottom of the page

2.BRING COPY - Completed senior survey (on Naviance, under the “About Me” tab)

3.BRING COPY - Acceptance letter from the school you will be attending

This process will ensure that your final transcript will be sent to the school you plan to attend in the fall

-If you are planning to work, enter the military, take a gap year, or travel

1. Stop in the CCC to let us know your plans

·         SAT Subject Tests vs. AP Exams Presentation in the CCC - Come join The Princeton Review on Monday, April 29 at 5pm in the CCC to learn more about differences between the two tests and how to decide which tests students should take. No sign-up necessary.

·         SoCal Roc is now enrolling for the Fall 2019 semester. Classes begin Monday, September 9. Come to the CCC to sign up and learn more about the classes we offer.
