STUDENT INFO

·         AP Pre-Identification Session – The LAST AP Pre-ID Session is TODAY after school at 3 pm in the Small Theater. You must attend one of these sessions in order to take the exams.

·         The GRAMMY Award Winning Mira Costa Marching Band and Colorguard is actively recruiting new members, and Spring Training starts next Tuesday, April 30 from 3:30 – 5:30 pm at Mira Costa in Room 4. Colorguard is a dance based performing art that offers PE credit to its members; dance and gymnastics experience is preferred, but not required. The Drumline is looking for individuals with piano and drum experience! See Mr. Carlson in Room 4 for more information or check out our website at www.miracostabands.com.

·         Mira Costa High School Band Program presents “A Night of Percussion” featuring the MCHS Percussion Ensemble. Feel the beat in an unforgettable musical experience showcasing MC music at its finest! Wednesday, May 1 at 7 pm in the Orchestra Room 3. Don’t miss this opportunity to experience our talented students’ fantastic percussion skills!

·         The 19th Annual MCHS Art Show is coming up, and it’s time to vote for the People’s Choice Award! This award is sponsored by South Bay Magazine. Vote online and then see the art at the reception on May 3 at Resin Gallery in Hermosa Beach: https://southbay.goldenstate.is/9x12-mchs-art-show/.

·         Submission deadline for the Neptunian Woman’s Club of MB 40th Annual Art and Photography Contest is 3:00 pm, Friday, May 10. No class projects. A ceremony will be held in the Neptunian Clubhouse Sunday, May 19 at 1:00 pm for exhibiting student artists. Entry form with rules online at www.neptunians.org/nwc-art-show.

·         Students, have you ordered your yearbook? Not Sure? Check for your name on the grade level list on our website. If you find that you have not ordered, you can do so on the Mira Costa ASB Web Store, https://mchswebstore.myschoolcentral.com or by check or cash in the ASB Finance Office at the student store. Price is currently $110 w/ASB or $120. Price rises to $125 on May 1 for ALL students. We will take orders only until May 31. After May 31, yearbooks (if available) will be sold for $125 cash after the distribution period begins. Questions? Contact Mrs. Cessor in the ASB Finance Office.

·         All students who have ever taken an Engineering course with Mrs. Weaver are now eligible to receive FREE credits from El Camino. Please see Mrs. Weaver in Room 112 to receive information on how to receive the credits.

·         Attention Next Year’s Seniors 2019-2020! Registration has begun for student parking lottery for the 2019-2020 school year. Tuesday, April 30, will be the last day for registration. Interested students should register online at the MCHS ASB Web Store. There is no cost to sign up, and you will receive a receipt for registration. Please review the Parking Permit Guidelines posted on the MCHS Website before registering. *Please note: This is a lottery for students who will be seniors ONLY. It is NOT first come/first served. If you are selected, you will be notified via email and provided further instructions. Any students having difficulty registering online, contact Donna Cessor in the ASB Finance Office.

SENIORS

·         Buy your Senior Grad Nite Ticket TODAY! Tickets increase by $20 on May 1! The party is substance-free and provides a safe environment for graduates to celebrate together one last time. Attendees are bused to a secret, private venue, where they may participate in games, music, dancing, and many other surprise activities. Visit the school website for tickets and more info.

CLUBS AND ORGANIZATIONS

·         Come to the Robotics Club TODAY, Monday, in Room 111 to start off the new season and see this year’s challenge!

·         Are you interested in our criminal justice system? Do you want to become a lawyer or build strong presentation and public speaking skills to show to colleges? Then the Mock Trial Club is right for you! Come to Room 23 during AM Office Hours for more information.

·         Come to the Young Survival Coalition Club in Room 73 every other Monday, to help spread awareness about breast cancer!

COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER

·      Schedule a one-on-one appointment with one of our credentialed college counselors. Call 310-318-7337 ext. 5253 or email [email protected]. *Juniors – the Spring Semester is an ideal time to meet with a CCC Counselor.

·      College Representative Visits In The CCC – If visit is during class please get teacher permission to attend. This is an opportunity to learn about your schools of interest and meet the admission counselors. View all visits and sign-up to attend on NAVIANCE. Please bring your school ID.

o   TODAY 4/29El Camino College Appointments 8:30 – 11:00am. Make sure you are completing the tasks that are needed to qualify for Priority Registration and the Honors Program. Come to the CCC to make an appointment to develop an Educational Plan or answer any questions you may have. 

o   Thursday, 5/2U.S. Naval Academy at 12:20pm

o   Friday, 5/3 Santa Monica College at 12:20pm

·         Juniors – Case Study College Night and College Mini Fair Tuesday, May 14; check-in begins at 5:00pm and case studies start promptly at 5:30pm. 11th-Grade students and their parents are invited to participate in a mock admissions evening where you will meet in small groups with an experienced admissions officer who will lead a discussion on what colleges look for in an applicant, as well as what every college values. Students will learn first-hand how they will be evaluated, which can help them begin thinking of the qualities and strengths they possess and what they will need to do to prepare for the application process. Space for the Case Study event is limited to 150 11th-grade students and one parent per family, please sign up on Naviance. All grade levels are invited to the College Mini Fair that will be held immediately after the case studies, at 6:45pm in the Cafeteria.

·      SENIORS: Please complete the following steps and BRING COPIES* to the CCC by May 10:

1. BRING COPY Updated Naviance college admissions results page. (Go to the College tab. For colleges that you did NOT end up applying to, mark as “withdrawn.” For colleges that you applied to and did not get into, mark “denied.” For colleges you applied to and got into, mark “accepted.” Finally, indicate which school you are going to ATTEND at the bottom of the page

2.BRING COPY - Completed senior survey (on Naviance, under the “About Me” tab)

3.BRING COPY - Acceptance letter from the school you will be attending

This process will ensure that your final transcript will be sent to the school you plan to attend in the fall

-If you are planning to work, enter the military, take a gap year, or travel

·         SENIORS College Commitment Day/Map Event. On Wednesday, May 1, come to the Mustang Mall Stage during AM Office Hours. Wear your new school gear and put your sticker on the map to show where you will be attending school in the fall.

·         SAT Subject Tests vs. AP Exams Presentation in the CCC - Come join The Princeton Review on Monday, April 29 at 5pm in the CCC to learn more about differences between the two tests and how to decide which tests students should take. No sign-up necessary.

·         SoCal Roc is now enrolling for the Fall 2019 semester. Classes begin Monday, September 9. Come to the CCC to sign up and learn more about the classes we offer.
