WED 5/22 Seniors Cap, Gown and Graduation Ticket Distribution from 9 to 10:20 am and at lunch in the Auditorium foyer

THU 5/23Jazz Concert from 7:00 – 9:00 pm in the Small Theater

FRI 5/24 – Last Day to enter 2019-2020 Student Planner Cover Design Contest

MON 5/27 Memorial Day; No School

 


STUDENT INFO

·         Monday through Friday next week is SBAC testing for all 11th grade students. Testing begins at 8:00 am daily; please see the bell schedule on the MCHS or access it through the link in the email that will be sent to all 11th grade families. Room rosters are posted at the attendance office window. Please check the rosters for your room assignment. Reminder: There will be no electronic devices allowed in the testing sessions, so please plan accordingly. All other students, check the website for daily late-start schedule.

·         Mira Costa 2019-2020 Student Planner Cover Design Contest! To enter, submit your vision of Mira Costa in any flat medium (pencil, paint, graphics, etc.) to Mrs. Heredia in Art room 62 or Mrs. Meeks in the Admin Office by May 24. To account for trim, all entries must be 5.5” x 8.5” with the critical design elements in the center 4” x 7.25”. You may enter as many pieces as you like. All entries will be displayed; faculty and students will each have one vote to nominate the 3 winners. Express yourself using any colors, designs and school-appropriate creativity. Previously submitted designs are welcome.

·         CSF News: Congratulations to the 163 senior class members who will be seal bearers at graduation.

·         Prom 2019 California Dreamin’ will be held June 1, 2019 at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles. Purchase your tickets now at the Student Store or purchase a ticket voucher at the ASB Web Store, https://mchswebstore.myschoolcentral.com. For details and pricing see the Prom Forms which must be completed for purchase:

·         Drama 1 & 2 Showcase 5/20 Monday at 7:00 pm in the Small Theater. No charge! Come support the Drama Department and watch the monologues and scenes on which the classes have been working so hard.

 

 

SENIORS

·         Cap & Gown Distribution will be Wednesday, 5/22 at 9:00 am in the foyer of the Auditorium. Beat the rush! Pick up your cap and gown and graduation tickets before school starts (on SBAC testing schedule). Next opportunity to pick up will be at lunch.

 

CLUBS AND ORGANIZATIONS

·         Come to the Young Survival Coalition Club in Room 73 every other Monday to help spread awareness about breast cancer!

 

COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER

·      Schedule a one-on-one appointment with one of our credentialed college counselors. Call 310-318-7337 ext. 5253 or email [email protected]. *Juniors – the Spring Semester is an ideal time to meet with a CCC Counselor.

·      Applying to College 101 workshop Series in the CCC  Maximize your summer! Start early and make applications stress-free!

*Understanding the Selective College Admission Process (Presented by Camille Crites                     Admissions Counselor at Syracuse University) – Tuesday, 5/28 at 6:00pm

*College Application Essay Writing – Tuesday, 6/4 at 2:00pm and 6:00pm

This series will be most helpful for Juniors and their parents, however all grade levels are welcome to attend! Sign up on Naviance under “College Visits.”

·      Local Event

JUNIORS: Reed College (OR), Sarah Lawrence College (NY), and Kenyon College (OH) are hosting a College Essay Writing Workshop, May 21 from 6:30 to 7:30 PM at the Manhattan Beach Public Library in the Meeting Room, 1320 Highland Avenue, Manhattan Beach

As three national liberal arts and sciences colleges that deeply value writing, they will share what makes a successful college essay and discuss how the essay fits into the college selection process. We hope it will allow students to gain new perspectives, alleviate fears and myths, and explore topics and strategies to essays that will authentically convey who you are.
