STUDENT INFO

·         The second informational meeting for the Spring Break 2020 trip to South Korea will take place this Thursday at lunch in Room 202! If you did not have a chance to attend the meeting last week, please come to get basic info you might have missed.

·         Interested in traveling to Vienna, Budapest, Prague, and Munich during Spring Break 2020? Come to Ms. Hutchinson’s Room 20 on THURSDAY at lunch to hear all about this beautiful and unique travel experience.

·         Thailand 2020 Spring Break: Meetings in Room 234 at lunch every TUESDAY (TODAY) in September (9/3, 9/10, 9/17, 9/24). Lots of info to share about this Amazing Adventure in community service.

·         California Scholarship Federation Fall Membership Drive continues through Friday, Sept. 27. Come by Room 243 during the membership drive to get more information and pick up an application. You can also check the Costa website for more information. Keep up the good work, Costa!

·         Join MBUSD students, teachers, administrators, and community members in spreading peace and positivity to the South Bay. We will be observing International Peace Day on Saturday, Sept. 21 by Standing in the Sand 4 Peace & Climate Action! The event begins at 8am on the MB pier, followed by participants forming the word PEACE in the sand, captured by aerial photo. We encourage everyone to stay after and participate in Coastal Clean-up Day, hosted by our friends at Heal the Bay, Round-House Aquarium, Grades of Green & Southbay Cares from 9am to noon.

·         Join us at the TEDx Manhattan Beach talks, BOLD Vision, on Nov. 2 at MCHS. The event includes short but provocative 10-minute talks, fun and interactive exhibits, breakfast, snacks and lunch. Ethan Nahlinder, Costa student and musician, is a scheduled presenter. Purchase tickets at TEDxManhattanBeach.com before they sell out. Student discounts are available.

SPORTS

·         Fall Boys’ Basketball Tryouts for all levels will be held this Thursday night from 7 to 9 pm in the Hermosa Valley Middle School Gym. This will be the final tryout of the fall.

CLUBS AND ORGANIZATIONS

·         Chess Club is taking place on Thursdays at lunch in Room 14. If you are interested in playing chess, learning chess, or improving your skills, this is the club for you. All levels are welcome.

·         Come to Improv Club TODAY at lunch in Room 1!

·         Join Latino Scholars Union Tuesdays (TODAY) at lunch in Room 73 for music, food, events, community service, and open discussions!

·         Old Clubs: If you did not come to the club renewal meetings held on 9/4 and 9/11, you have one final chance to get information and paperwork TODAY at lunch in the ASB Room. Homecoming nomination forms are due by 9/20. Thanks!

·         Additionally, any students interested in creating a new club, you have one final chance on Wednesday, 9/18 at lunch in the ASB Room to get information and paperwork. Thank you!

·         We commonly use medicine like Advil or Tylenol when we don’t feel well, but have you ever tried using herbs to treat an illness? Come to Eastern Medicine Club on Mondays in Room 352B to explore topics ranging from acupuncture to medicinal herbs, and volunteer at Eastern medical clinics.

·         Come Wednesday to room 70 for the Living on One Club! New members welcome!

·         Mira Costa Gender Sexuality Alliance meets every Thursday at lunch in Room 23, Mr. Zeoli’s room. Meet a group of loving and supportive people engage in activist work to help make campus a more accepting environment and raise funds for various charities and organizations.

·         If you want to make a difference in the world, come to Service Outside Costa TODAY during lunch in Ms. Gesualdi’s Room 331 for various forms of community service along with fundraising opportunities.

·         Hey! Interested in donating a bit of your time to help children in the hospital? Come to Children’s Hospital LA (CHLA) Club Mondays at lunch!

·         Are you interested in animals and the environment? Join the Wildlife Warriors Club! We offer volunteer hours, education in environmental and animal sciences, and much more! Speak up for those who can’t speak. Email [email protected] for info.

·         Are you interested in or want to learn about Engineering? Do you like building things and making them go fast? Then join Solar Boat Club where we work as a team to build a solar-powered boat and compete with teams across California! Come to our first meeting of the year TODAY in Mrs. Weaver’s Room 112.

COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER

·         College Essays – If you’d like a CCC counselor to revise your personal statement or personal insight questions, bring by a double-spaced copy to the CCC. Be sure to include your name, email, and the prompt to which you are responding.

·         College Representative Visits In The CCC – If visit is during class please get teacher permission to attend. This is an opportunity to learn about your schools of interest and meet the admission counselors. View all visits and sign up to attend on NAVIANCE. Please bring your school ID.

SoCal ROC fall semester classes have begun, but it's not too late to enroll in a class! Earn high school elective credits while gaining valuable hands-on experience in a variety of careers. Choose from classes related to Art & Design, Engineering & Design, Finance & Business, Health Sciences and Public & Consumer Services. Classes are free and transportation is provided for our 12:45pm and 3:45pm classes. Your SoCal ROC career guidance specialist will be on campus in the CCC next Wednesday, Sept. 18 during AM Office Hours. Drop in during that time and she can answer any questions or accept applications from interested students. Next week is the deadline to enroll!

·         JUNIORS AND SOPHOMORES – FINAL TWO DAYS FOR LATE PSAT REGISTRATION ($25) –TODAY, 9/17 ($35)

The test will begin at 7:00am on October 30 at MCHS
