STUDENT INFO

·         Homerooms – Don’t forget to raise money to help feed the homeless on Skid Row. Fill your containers with spare change for hot meals for the LA Mission.

·         “The caged bird sings with a fearful trill of things unknown but longed for still and his tune is heard on the distant hill for the caged bird sings of freedom.” Have you ever wanted to memorize and perform a famous poem like Maya Angelou’s “Caged Bird”? If so, you should consider competing in Costa’s ninth-annual Poetry Out Loud competition in January. The winner of the recitation contest will go on to represent Costa at the Los Angeles County competition, the county winner will represent LA in the state competition, and the state winner goes on to represent California in nationals. See your English teacher or Ms. Sieker in Room 44 for more details!

·         MCHS Drama/Tech Department’s fall play, She Kills Monsters, opens on Friday, 11/8 at 7:30 pm in the Small Theater and runs 11/9, 11/15, and 11/16 at 7:30 pm, 11/14 at 4 pm, and 11/14 at 6:30 pm. Pre-sale tickets are now available online at miracostadramaboosters.org. Student Store ticket sales begin Monday 11/4.

 

SPORTS

·         Boys’ Indoor Volleyball Tryouts are happening soon: 11/4 from 3:30 – 5 pm at MBMS for all grades; 11/8 from 6 – 7:30 pm at El Segundo High for freshmen only; 11/13 and 11/14, 6 – 8 pm at El Segundo for all grades.

CLUBS AND ORGANIZATIONS

·         Do you LOVE theater? Do you LOVE performing? If yes, come to Drama Club on Wednesday in the Drama Room 1!

·         If you love to laugh with a passion…come to Improv Club in the Drama Room 1 on Tuesday!

·         Come Wednesday during lunch to Room 70 for the Living on One Club! New members always welcome!

·         Come to Friendship Club every Tuesday and Thursday at lunch in Room 115!

·         Do you want to help Costa become a more inclusive place? Come to the Diversity and Inclusion Club Tuesdays at lunch in Room 101.

·         Please join the South Bay Food Initiative at the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank on Saturday, Nov. 2 to sort food from 9am to 12pm. No experience is necessary, and you can earn three hours of community service. For more information or to sign up, please visit www.southbayfoodinitiative.com. The deadline to sign up is Friday, Nov. 1.

·         Come down to Gamers Enthusiasts League on Wednesdays during PM Office Hours in the Library. We play board games, card games, party games, and more. See you there!

·         Learn to record your own music at Music Production Club! Sing, rap, make beats, play instruments, and more! No experience needed. Come to Room 51 Wednesdays during AM Office Hours (except the first week of each month).

·         Are you interested in computer programming or want a new extracurricular where you can learn and develop a very popular skill? Then the Competitive Coding Club is for you! All levels are welcome. Meetings are every Thursday during lunch and Wednesdays during PM Office Hours in Room 116, Mr. Braskin’s room. Personal computers are recommended but not required.

·         College Essays – If you’d like a CCC counselor to revise your personal statement or personal insight questions, bring by a double-spaced copy to the CCC. Be sure to include your name, email, and the prompt to which you are responding.

·         Join Oxbridge Academic Programs for a Summer Programs Presentation on Tuesday, 10/29 at 5:30PM in the College & Career Center. Learn about the benefits to summer programs for high school students and what Oxbridge Academic Programs has to offer. No sign-up necessary.

·         College Representative Visits in the CCC – If visit is during class please get teacher permission to attend. This is an opportunity to learn about your schools of interest and meet the admission counselors. View all visits and sign up to attend on NAVIANCE. Please bring your school ID.
