·          “It matters not how strait the gate/How charged with punishments the scroll. I am the master of my fate,/I am the captain of my soul.” If that quatrain from William Ernest Henley gets you in your feelings, you should consider competing in Mira Costa’s ninth-annual Poetry Out Loud competition in January. There is an entire anthology of epic poems to recite! See your English teacher or Ms. Sieker in Room 44 for an application.

·         Wondering what to do with all that Halloween candy? Operation Gratitude is collecting candy to send to deployed U.S. Service members. Bring unopened candy to the box in the front office now through this Friday, Nov. 8. Please consider adding a letter or drawing to let our service members know you care.

·         Attention Athletes signing to colleges: Wednesday, Nov. 13 will be the first signing day of the year at 11:10am (lunch on an Office Hours day). See Ms. Gardner in the Admin Office for a signing-day template to complete and return no later than Friday, Nov. 8. If athletes miss the Nov. 8 deadline, they must wait for the winter or spring signing days. ASB makes the banners, and we have to be mindful of their other time commitments. ·         BCHD IS OFFERING the High School Purpose Program on Wednesday, Nov. 13 at 12:26pm (PM Office Hours) in the CCC.  For students, finding purpose is important as they discover their life goals and make career choices. The Purpose Series gives students an opportunity to pause; reflect; and decide not only what they want to be but also who they want to be. Research tells us people with purpose live longer, have higher performance, and are happier. By participating in school-based purpose activities, students have a new understanding of what their purpose is and why it matters, while also discovering their calling for this stage in their lives in order to be better prepared for the future. Please sign up on Naviance or in the CCC if you are interested in attending this session.
