This college preparatory course is designed to introduce the freshman student to the culture of the western world and to his or her place in the modern world through a study of selected CORE and extended works of literature that include novels, short stories, nonfiction, poetry, drama, and mythology. Students will have a wide range of writing assignments and will learn the effective use of process writing. They will also develop a higher level of thinking skills by responding to literature in writing, discussion, collaborative learning activities, oral presentations, and research assignments. Students maintain portfolios to reflect on their progress in writing.
