Today in class we read a little background on Norse mythology and worldview; there was a spoof on Beowulf which students acted out; we reviewed vocab and literary terms in grammar teams.

Today in class the questions were collected; we discussed chapters 24-30; we read a silly poem about Beowulf as well as a spoof on Beowulf in fake old english titled "Beowulf versus Godzilla"; students also received a character diagram as a review/study guide; we then discussed chapters 31-35; finally, students had some collaboration time for their final presentation.

Today in class the requirements for the outside reading book this quarter were explained and a list of suggestions was passed out (see attached); body paragraph content/structure were reviewed and a sample topic sentence displayed (see attached); a list of transitional expressions was passed out as well to use as a resource in essay writing; we read Act 5 in assigned parts; and began to discuss Act 5 for participation points; the scene performance was explained and students decided their groups and selected scenes.

Today in class we had SSR day 2; we reviewed briefly for the quiz; the quiz on tragedy was given; we finished going over the Scenes 4-7 questions in Period 2 and went over the Acts 1-2 vocabulary in Period 4.

Today in class we went over some of the allusions in pop culture to Macbeth; students wrote a journal on "evil" (prompt--slide 8 in PowerPoint--is attached); roles were divvied up and we read Act 1, Scenes 4-7 and started to go over the questions; we also went over the inferences worksheet from yesterday and what the quiz is on tomorrow.

HW: Do the worksheets on Acts 1 and 2 vocabulary; review the notes on tragedy, Shakespearean drama and the video for the quiz tomorrow.

Today in class we finished going over Act 1, Scenes 1-3 questions; students received a map of Scotland showing some of the place names from the play, and had to answer questions on the map; there were two worksheets done in class, one on blank verse and one on making inferences; a couple videos were also shown on iambic pentameter and blank verse.

Today in class we watched a video on Shakespeare and tragedy; we started to go over Macbeth Act 1, Scenes 1-3 questions.

Today in class we started watching Men of Respect, a contemporary version of Macbeth to introduce you to the themes and issues of Shakespeare's play.

Today in class we went over the exodus questions for discussion participation points; we watched a parody of the 10 Commandments; we listened to a couple songs inspired by the Exodus story from the bible and we wrote a journal about Exodus; we got together with a clock partner and started working on filling in the study guide--you should have completed numbers 1-10, 14-16.

Today in class we had a guest speaker talk about volunteering with International Student Volunteers in the Dominican Republic; we had SSR; we got into grammar teams and continued looking at Latin and Greek prefixes and roots.

Today in class we viewed a PowerPoint of Biblical images and an assignment was given on researching a work of art inspired by the Bible (see attached); we also watched a video called the Bible in a Minute; we then went to the library for research.

Today in English class the homework was collected, there was a journal writing assignment on our beliefs about the origin of the world and humanity (see attached); we went over the homework and reviewed some of the notes in preparation for the quiz Monday; we read a short story called "The Egg" which presents one idea for the meaning of life and where we come from.

Today in class we went over the purpose of journals and students received a writing log handout to keep track of journals (see attached); journal #3 was assigned, a response to Ithaka (attached); class supplies were check and all signed forms turned in; a Class Norms PowerPoint was shown and the Ethics Policy reviewed, as well as the seating chart was reviewed.
