Today in class the works cited assignment was collected; final study guides were passed out as well as a review sheet for clauses; part 2 of the 1984 vocab was passed out; we discussed the reasons behind and pros and cons of jealousy; and we read and discussed Browning's two dramatic monologues "My Last Duchess" and "Porphyria's Lover."

Today in class students took the vocab quiz and we went to the library for research.

Today in class students had SSR; we reviewed punctuation for the final and reviewed part 1 1984 vocabulary for the quiz tomorrow; we started to go over the UDHR questions, reviewing how to create a Works Cited entry for an internet source.

HW: read chapters 7 and 8 in part 2; part 1 vocab quiz tomorrow; select article from the UDHR and geographic area to focus on for tomorrow's research day.

Today in class we discussed the "Is Big Brother Watching You?" questionnaire; the Teaching the Class assignment for 1984 and the final SSR/Outside reading book presentation were explained; students did a Give One Get One on historical background to the Victorian Era and a handout was given on the history and development of the novel; we then looked at our first Victorian poet--Elizabeth Browning.

Today in class there was a punctuation quiz; students presented on their totalitarian states; there was a journal; and we started on the 1984 and Today questions.

Today in class the homework was collected; we reviewed punctuation; went over the 1984 review questions; and then students worked in groups creating the perfect totalitarian society.

Today in class we discussed the additional poems by Keats and  "Ode on a Grecian Urn"; the study guide and art poem assignments were explained.

Today in class students turned in their homework; we wrapped up the discussion of Rime and students wrote a journal about different modern-day poem/songs that reference Rime; we also discussed Kubla Khan; and started listening to "Ode to a Nightingale."

Today in class we reviewed writing commentary or analysis in essays; students updated their portfolios and we discussed the Rime of the Ancient Mariner.

HW: read "Ode to a Nightingale" and use the notes given to help your understanding of the poem; do a 2-4 sentence paraphrase of each stanza (on the poem itself) and complete the senses chart with approximately five examples of each type of imagery; Rime projects due Tuesday

Today in class students had SSR; we discussed the Rime storybook project; and we had grammar games, looking at colons, semi-colons, and quotation marks.

Today in class students had SSR; binders were checked; we viewed a powerpoint with satirical jokes; and we reviewed comma rules by reading a chapter from Eats, Shoots, and Leaves.

Today in class we read three short poems by Wordsworth (I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud, Composed Upon Westminster Bridge and The Solitary Reaper) accompanied by visuals in a PowerPoint; students worked on questions on the poems and showed their work when they finished; we discussed the poems; then students wrote journal #3 (attached) going outside to find a piece of nature to describe in great detail.

Today in class we finished discussing the chimney sweeper poems; students took notes on Wordsworth and wrote a journal with their desks turned around to face the windows and while listening to Vivaldi.

Today in class we finished the notes; read two samples of satirical essays; critiqued two student samples of interpretive essays; and had a journal (attached).

Today in class students took the 18th century writing vocab quiz and the Romanticism historical background quiz; we started on a PowerPoint presentation describing the Romantic movement.

Today in class the homework was collected; we listen to a Sinead O'Connor song "Empire" that equates empires with vampires and that addresses English oppression of the Irish and students answered questions about the song (attached); we went over the Modest Proposal vocab and started going over the questions.

Today in class we reviewed the vocab for "A Vindication" and went over the questions; notes were given on satire; and students started working on the vocab and questions for "A Modest Proposal."

Today in class the homework was collected; a presentation was shown on Wollstonecraft's life; we discussed gender roles today; and students took notes on non-fiction writing, rhetoric, methods of persuasion, and rhetorical devices.

Today in class for SSR, students read an opinion-editorial article and wrote a "believing-doubting" response; afterwards we discussed the article;we then had Grammar Fundays, starting a new packet on punctuation, reviewing end marks and commas, for our last day with the current teams.

Today in class we reviewed metaphysical poetry; and discussed Donne's poems "A Valediction: Forbidding Mourning" and "Holy Sonnet 10" and we started talking about "Meditation 17"; students also got instructions on the seminar tomorrow.
