US News and World Report names MCHS as one of the Top 100 schools in the NATION for Math and Science Education.
Costa named CBEE Honor Roll for 2010-2011
The California Business for Education Excellence named Mira Costa High School to it's Honor Roll of schools. The honor roll is based on academic excellence and performance. Congrats Mustang Family!
Abha Nath and Brady Currey win 1st place in the Oracle's Thinkquest International Web Design Competition
Abha and Brady along with their third teammate from Irvine, were coached by Patricia Ware from MBMS.
Each year over 900 teams from 60 countries compete. Abha and Brady's team came 1st in the 16 and under digital media category. What makes their accomplishment even more astounding is that their entry is a result of over 8 months of collaboration and work with only four face-to-face meetings.

Each group member wins a laptop, and a cash prize of $5000 goes to the coach's school.

NCAA College Athletics Information presentation
February 15th @ 7:30 the Manhattan Beach Athletic Foundation is sponsoring a presentation by Jennifer Noonan from College Sports Quest on NCAA College Sports playing opportunities, college athletic scholarships and information on the college recruiting process. The presentation will be in the Mira Costa auditorium and is free and open to all high school students and parents in the South Bay area.

MBEF welcomes all parents and students to attend the upcoming presentation:

Summer School Registration begins March 5th
ALL CLASSES WILL BE HELD AT MANHATTAN BEACH MIDDLE SCHOOL
due to construction at Costa

Summer school has two semesters
8am to 1:30pm Monday thru Thursday, except the week of July 4 - classes will be held on Friday.
June 25th to July 12th and
July 16th to August 2nd and
The Summer Athletic Training Program for many sports -
runs from June 25th to August 3rd.

Detention hours and location
Detention is held in room 101 every Monday and Wednesday from 3:15 to 4:15 and every Tuesday and Thursday from 7am to 8am.
Tutoring Now Available
Informal student tutoring is available in the library after school. After school hours are generously funded by your PTSA.
OFF-GROUNDS STICKER NEEDED
Students that have an “excused 0, 1st 5th or 6th period” or surf team on their schedule need to come to the Guidance Office to get an “Off-Grounds sticker” placed on their student ID card.

Mustang Salute

Taylor Howat - 2012 Poetry Out Loud Winner
Congratualtions to Taylor Howat for winning the inaugural MCHS Poetry Out Loud Recitation Contest. To garner the top honor at the event, Taylor recited Thomas Moore's "The Time I've Lost in Wooing" and Dorothy Parker's "Song in a Minor Key". Taylor will now move on to the LA County competition!
Sophomore Caroline Millicent accepted into Ryman Arts Program with full scholarship
Caroline Millicent submitted two pencil drawings and a two page essay at the beginning of December and was offered a full scholarship to the Ryman Arts Program.
Maegan Manasse Wins CIF Tennis Championship
Congratulations to junior Maegan Manasse who defeated Palm Desert's Desirae Krawczyk at the Seal Beach Tennis Center Friday, December 2nd to win the girls' CIF Southern Section Individuals singles title. In doing this, Maegan becomes the first Mustang girls tennis player to win a CIF Individuals tennis title!
Mira Costa MUN wins top Honors!
We had 40 kids attend the McGill University Secondary Schools Model UN conference (SSUNS). Costa won best Delegation (school) for the 3rd time in 4 appearances over the last 8 years. There were 40 schools from Canada, the US, Uganda, Sweden and Trinidad Tobago who attended. This came out to 800 students total. MC earned 11 gavels and 9 outstanding wards individually. The debate went for 3 1/2 days. The team also toured Quebec City, had a personal tour of McGIll from a Costa MUN alumnus, and saw a variety of sights in Montreal from Olympic Stadium to Old Town Montreal.
Mira Costa Symphony Orchestra Selected for Prestigious Partnership
After a two round audition process, the Mira Costa Symphony Orchestra has been chosen as one of four top youth orchestras in the Greater Los Angeles area to receive a "premiere status" partnership with the LA Philharmonic! During this two year partnership, students in the Symphony Orchestra will receive several resources from the LA Philharmonic, including free coaching sessions from LA Phil musicians and other teaching artists, as well as an invitation to perform at the Walt Disney Concert Hall, either during the Spring of 2012, or the Spring of 2013. Congratulations to all the students for earning this exciting opportunity to network with LA's premiere music organization!
