The California Business for Education Excellence recognized Mira Costa High School for demonstrating consistent high levels of student academic achievement, improvement in achievement levels over time and reduction in achievement gaps among student populations. Mustangs Shine in California Streaming Digital Photography Contest
20 Costa students entered this year's contest. Congratulations to Garrett Greller whose entry "Across the Universe" was a winner! Kudos, too, to Alessandra Anderson, Summer Novak, Ryan Lee, Victor Villavicencio and Savannah Wood, whose entries made Honorable Mention.
Mustang Musician Wins State Competition
Eleen Yeh, a junior violinist and member of the Mira Costa Symphony Orchestra, recently competed in the 2012 VOCE State Final Solo Competition sponsored by the Music Teachers’ Association of California. Against a line-up of some of the best musicians in the state, each of whom won regional competitions before advancing to the State Final Round, Eleen was honored as the 1st place winner of the Sr. Strings Division! Congratulations!
Music Teacher Honored by California ASTA
Congratulations to Mira Costa orchestra director, Mr. Peter Park, for being honored as the 2012 Greater Los Angeles “Outstanding Teacher of the Year” by the California State Chapter of the American String Teachers Association. Mr. Park will be recognized for his ongoing service to music education at the ASTA Los Angeles Finals Recital-Competition at Cal State Fullerton as well as at an upcoming ASTA-GLAS board meeting.
Mira Costa Gymnast Strikes Gold!
Mustang junior Douglas Meyer was one of 5 gymnasts from different area high schools who captured first place in the Level 8 Team All Around Competition at the recent State Gymnastics Championship meet held at Soka University. The competition spanned all 6 Olympic events: High Bar, Parallel Bar, Floor, Pommel, Rings and Vault.
Mustangs Earn Admissions Nationwide
With many colleges and universities still releasing admission decisions this week, Mira Costa High School seniors have had more than their share of success in college admissions. Student in the class of 2012 have been admitted to all eight Ivy League universities as well as Duke, Georgetown, Stanford, Berkeley and UCLA. This success can be attributed to the hard work of our students in the classroom and in their pursuit of athletics and extracurricular activities, in addition to excellent preparation by our teachers and counseling staff.
