The School of Business at Stevens Institute of Technology is offering a paid virtual summer research program for high school students. In this six-week program, students will have the opportunity to work alongside a faculty member from the School of Business and assist them with research in their area of study such as management, leadership or finance.  The final assignment will include a PowerPoint presentation detailing their research findings. The program will run from July 1, 2023, through August 12, 2023, and students will receive a $500 stipend after completing the program. The attached flyer can be uploaded on your school's website.
Eligibility: Applicants must currently be in their junior year of high school (no exceptions).
Deadline: Applications are due by March 1, 2023.
Notification: Applicants will be notified by April 1, 2023. 
The application packet will include all of the following:

  • 1-page essay in which you describe yourself and detail what you hope to gain from this experience 
  • a copy of your current resume 
  • a copy of your unofficial high school transcript

South Bay Artist Collective
The South Bay Artist Collective is looking for artistic high schoolers to help our with our After School Art Program! We are a non-profit located in Hermosa Beach with a mission to support and grow the local visual arts community by creating a destination for art and creativity, while teaching and inspiring youth. Computer Science Immersion Program (CSIP)

C-SIP will run over the course of 9 Sunday afternoons (June 11th to August 6th - 4pm to 7pm) with high school students learning about their future opportunities in the world of computer science as it relates to college, a technology career and making a positive impact. Students will be hearing from a great array of technology professionals who will speak about fields such as web design, software development, user experience as well as organization operations. They will also have the opportunity to take workshops on various topics like college admissions and work on a team project related to technology.

-While originally designed for Southern CA high school students, the program takes place online on Zoom.
-In addition to speakers, workshops and discussions, HSIP students will be divided into groups of 4-5 for a simple group final presentation.

Health Science Immersion Program (HSIP)

H-SIP will run over the course of 9 Saturday afternoons (June 10th to August 5th) with high school students gaining an introduction to the health sciences field. Students will be hearing from a great array of graduate students, research professors and health professionals as they learn more about the academic, research and professional components of the health sciences. They will also have the opportunity to take workshops on various topics like college admissions and work on a group research project. Students can choose from two sessions (1 - 4pm or 4 - 7pm PST)


This program is an introduction to the research, academic and professional aspects of the health sciences field.  Students will hear from science professors, advanced graduate students and experienced health professionals who will deliver comprehensive lectures about their field and work.  Our curriculum will be supplemented by discussions, panels, workshops and a small group project intended to give students a comprehensive experience as they consider their future college and career opportunities.

Open to ALL grade levels!

MBUSD Medical Advisory Board History
-The Manhattan Beach Unified School District Medical Advisory Board is a unique committee of South Bay medical professionals who work together to promote mutual respect and interaction between the Manhattan Beach Unified School District and the health care community. 
-This committee is comprised of approximately thirty physicians and other health service professionals who represent a broad range of specialties.
-This distinguished body meets three times a year with school and district administrators, district nurses, the superintendent, and members of the MBUSD Board of Trustees to review current medical challenges as they pertain to the education, physical and mental well-being of all students in the district, preschool through grade twelve.
Youth Medical Advisory Board members will:
-Offer recommendations on youth health issues
-Provide feedback and input on Medical Advisory Board meeting topics
-Serve as ambassadors and leaders of health
MBUSD Students currently in Grades 10th and 11th are eligible to apply. 
Medical Advisory Board meetings will be held at the Manhattan Beach Unified School District Office located at 325 S. Peck Ave, Manhattan Beach from 7:00pm-9:00pm three times a year.

MB Mayor's Youth Council
The MB Mayor's Youth Council will soon be recruiting high school students for next year's program, which begins in September 2022 and runs through April 2023.
Mayor's Youth Council is an exciting program that brings together high school students and professional leaders to explore leadership, careers, and civic engagement. Selected students will meet monthly and have the opportunity to meet and dialogue with leaders in numerous industries, government, arts and more!  The students will also participate in a City-sponsored event. This group of students have also been running the TEDx Salon event at Mira Costa. This program is now entering its 8th year and the program has expanded to 40 students.  
They are looking for candidates who are willing to make the time commitment, step outside their comfort zone, participate in our workshops and have fun! 
Criteria to Apply:
1.     Student must be a resident of Manhattan Beach or attend Mira Costa High School
2.     The program is open to students who will enter the 2022-2023 school year this Fall as a Sophomore, Junior and or Senior
3.     Students are only allowed to miss one meeting to remain in good standing and are expected to commit to the following dates if accepted: TBA
4.     There is a registration fee which helps cover dinner and supplies for each workshop.

They are seeking curious, engaged students who have a full understanding of what this program is about and are willing to commit to this program. They do allow 1 absence due to a conflict per student, otherwise students do not receive credit on their website for completing the program.

he application will close when 80 applications have been received. It is recommended that students apply in the first 2-3 days of the application opening.  All students will have the opportunity to interview, and applicants are encouraged to apply again if they did not make it in their sophomore or junior year.
