STUDENT INFO

·      If recitation is a gift with which you’ve been endowed, you should consider competing in Poetry Out Loud. January 16 is the date of our school competition; you’re invited to perform or attend – and it’s free admission! You can request an application & information from your English teacher, or stop by Room 44 and get both from Ms. Sieker.

·      It’s that time of the year! The 2018 Lip Sync Contest is here! Calling all clubs, sports teams, groups and individuals: Show us your Lip Sync skills and win a chance at PRIZE MONEY. Show is this Thursday, November 15!

·      The Grammy Award Winning Mira Costa Bands present the Homecoming Concert of the Marching Band and Colorguard – the final performance of our 2018 Field Show, The Pack! on Nov. 15 at 7 pm in Waller Stadium, featuring parade, pop and rousing school spirit music. We invite parents, alumni, staff, students and community members to join us for this special evening as we celebrate the end of the Marching Band season after returning home from MOBX Championships in Las Vegas.

SENIORS

·      Attention Seniors! Turn in your Cap and gown, senior ring and grad item orders on Friday, Nov. 16 from 8 am – 2 pm outside the CCC. See the Jostens rep there.

SPORTS

·      Swimming Tryouts will be Thursday, Dec. 13. Warm ups start at 2 pm, tryouts will begin around 3 pm.

CLUBS AND ORGANIZATIONS

·      Mira Costa Gender Sexuality Alliance meets every Thursday at lunch in Room 23, Mr. Zeoli’s room. Meet a group of loving and supportive people, engage in activist work to help make campus a more accepting environment, and raise funds for various charities and organizations.

·      Come to Club Harmony at lunch on Thursday to learn how to promote social inclusivity! We are raising awareness about different cultures, religions, backgrounds, and identities.

·      Do you like Chipotle? If so, show your support for Mira Costa Portraits of Hope Club on Wednesday from       4 – 8 pm by going to the HB Chipotle and showing a flyer!

·      Do you need help in explaining Physics concepts? Do you like to talk about Physics? Do you want to know how long it takes to cook a perfect pizza? Come to Room 237 during lunch on Fridays for Physics Club!

·      Hello Mustangs! Come eat lunch with us on Mondays in Room 70 and join the “We Dine Together” Club. All are welcome!

·      Official Full Chapter Meeting of the National Honor Society (NHS) will take place in the MPR on Thursday, 11/15 at lunch. We will go over ISPs and committees and brainstorm chapter goals for the year.

·      Come to Room 17 on Thursday at lunch if you are interested in joining the Teen Unification Club and brainstorming ways to help make a difference in another teen’s life by spreading care and positivity.

·      Come to Room 111 during every AM office hours for some great EDM music live mixed and spun by Costa’s own EDM Club. Bring your own ear plugs.

·         Financial Aid Workshop TONIGHT, November 13 at 5:30 – 7:00pm in the CCC.  Want more information on the Financial Aid Process and Paying for College? Join us for an informative workshop on the financial aid application processes (FAFSA and CSS Profile), how to interpret the results, important dates and deadlines and what financial aid is available from the federal and state government. We will also explore how financial aid is determined, where to find merit scholarships, and how to use national student outcome data (and tools) to support your family in the college selection process. Presenter: Catherine Graham, The Financial Aid Shop. Students and parents are welcome. Please sign-up on Naviance or in the CCC.

·      College Representative Visits In The CCC – If visit is during class please get teacher permission to attend. This is an opportunity to learn about your schools of interest and meet the admission counselors. View all visits and sign-up to attend on NAVIANCE. Please bring your school ID.

o   Wednesday, 11/14 University of Hawaii of Manoa at 2:15pm.

o   Friday, 11/16 Biola University at 10:23am.

·      SENIORS Visit the CCC for College Application Assistance:

o  College Personal Statement Revision – Please bring in a hard-copy of your essay if you would like feedback from one of the counselors. Typically essays are completed within 2-3 business days.

o  Walk-in Wednesdays for help with applications, essay revisions and to have your questions answered! No appointment necessary. Walk-In Hours are on Wednesdays, from 3PM to 5PM.

·      SoCal Roc is now enrolling for its 9-week courses: Adobe Suite (After Effects, Animate, Dreamweaver, Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop), Business Entrepreneur, and ITCC-Welding. Classes begin Nov. 13. Sign up in the CCC to speak with a SCROC counselor.
