STUDENT INFO

·         AIDS Benefit Audtions are Jan. 28! Location will be posted tomorrow in Room1. Come to Room 1 for more info.

·         Attention Students: The After-School Student-to-Student free tutoring program has moved and will now take place in the main office in the waiting area outside the counselors’ offices. If you need help with any of your work or if you just need a comfortable, dry place to study, this is the place to be! The program runs after school from 3 – 5 pm Monday through Thursday. Get your semester off to a strong start!

·         Attentions Juniors and Seniors: Do you want to earn valuable community service hours for those college applications? Do you want the satisfaction of knowing you’ve helped others? If so, please come down to the main office after school and speak to either Mr. McAvin or Mr. Zeoli about being a peer tutor. We will be in the waiting area outside the counselors’ offices. It’s a great gig! Come in and learn more about it! Bring your friends!

·         Students! Winter Formal will be held Feb. 9. Don’t miss your chance to Sail Away on a yacht in Marina del Rey. Purchase tickets NOW at the Student Store, or purchase a ticket voucher at the ASB Web Store. Don’t delay, prices increase on Jan. 26.

·         Scholar Quiz Registration opens Feb. 6 at 6:00 am. Registration is On-Line at https://www.miracostahigh.org/apps/form/form.MIRCOSHS.qHectyo.hA. This link can be found under the Latest News section of the MCHS website. Selections will be made on a first-come, first-served basis, regardless of grade, and will be time stamped upon on-line registration. The Scholar Quiz dates are March 12, 13, 14, 15, 18, 20. Only 64 teams will be guaranteed entry. All others will be placed on a list of alternates. Questions? Contact Laurie Baker at [email protected].

·         Registration for AP Examinations is available online NOW through Feb. 8. Late Registration online will begin Friday, Feb. 1 at 3:00 pm. Walk-in registration will be available at the Student Store during LUNCH ONLY starting 1/28.  On-time registration: Jan. 28 – Feb. 1. Late registration: Feb. 4 – Feb. 8.

·         The California Scholarship Federation spring membership drive has been extended through Wednesday, January 30. Pick up applications in Room 243 during this time. Associate Membership will be open to freshmen during this drive. Remember Seniors, you need one semester of senior grades!

CLUBS AND ORGANIZATIONS

·      Do you want help with Physics homework, have questions, or want to learn cool stuff? Come to Physics Club in Room 237 Fridays (TODAY) at lunch.

·      Come to American Sign language (ASL) Club on Fridays (TODAY), Room 232, to learn new signs, make new friends, or just have fun eating yummy snacks. Can’t wait to see you there!”

·      Come to P.O.M. (Power of Music) Club in Room 78 every Thursday! We provide students with volunteer opportunities while spreading the joy of music to places that might not have access to it.

·      Are you looking for community service hours? Look no further than the South Bay Food Initiative. Meetings are Tuesdays at lunch in Mr. Piper’s Room 201. We’re also having a volunteer event this Saturday, the 26th. For more info, visit southbayfoodinitiative.com.

COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER

·         College Representative Visits In The CCC – If visit is during class please get teacher permission to attend. This is an opportunity to learn about your schools of interest and meet the admission counselors. View all visits and sign up to attend on NAVIANCE. Please bring your school ID.

o  Wednesday, 1/30Marymount California University at 9:51am (AM Office Hours); El Camino College appointments - Make sure you are completing the tasks that are needed to qualify for Priority Registration. Come to the CCC to make an appointment to develop an Educational Plan or answer any questions you may have.  Appointments begin at 9:51am – 1:10pm, sign up in the CCC.

·      Sophomores and Juniors

o  If you took the PSAT in October your printed score reports are now available for pick-up in the CCC.
