STUDENT INFO

·         The Spring Dance and Casino Night is Friday, April 19 at the California Yacht Club in Marina Del Rey. Tickets are available NOW at the Student Store or ASB Webstore. Get yours now!

·         Congratulations to the MCHS Drama/Tech Department for a stellar showing at the 2019 Fullerton Theatre Festival. Costa took home eight Tech medals and took 1st and 2nd place in overall Tech Olympics. Musical Theatre won second place, Theatre games brought home third place, and Classical Ensemble placed second. The biggest winner was our collective heart and effort. Well done Costa!

·         Applications for Mira Costa’s La Vista Newspaper staff are available now. Any student interested in applying to join Mira Costa’s award-winning newspaper must submit an application (available in Room 101) to Ms. Sweeny by no later than Friday, April 12. Students interested in joining the staff should have prior Journalism experience (an A or B in Intro to Journalism or a summer school Journalism course, through MBX or a local community college). If students plan to take Journalism over the summer through MBX, note that on the top of the application. Please email [email protected] with any questions. ·         Submit your photos to La Vista’s annual photo contest! Categories include: people, places and things. Photos must be high quality and submitted digitally to [email protected] by 4/9. Email us if you have any questions!

·         Do you need community service hours? If you do, you definitely want to jump on board with Rustic Pathways to participate in community service activities in beautiful Thailand! The first meeting is scheduled for TODAY at lunch in the Guidance Office Conference Room! We hope you jump on board for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! ·         Call for art! All students are invited to enter a piece into 9x12: The 19th Annual All Media Art Show. Work can be in any medium including drawing, painting, sculpture, photography and mixed media. See any art teacher or Mrs. Heredia in Room 62 for official entry form. The show will be held at Resin Gallery in Hermosa Beach on May 3, and prizes will be awarded in each category. Deadline to enter work is April 8.

·         The Neptunian Woman’s Club is sponsoring its 40th Student Art and Photography Contest for grades K-5 (art) and 6-12 (art and photography). Deadline for submission to the school office is Friday, May 10, 2019 before 3:00 pm. An awards ceremony will be held on Sunday, May 19 at 1:00 pm in the Neptunian clubhouse, Manhattan Beach. CLUBS AND ORGANIZATIONS

·         Come to the Young Survival Coalition Club in Room 73 every other Monday to help spread awareness about breast cancer!

SENIORS

·         Attention Seniors: The list of CSF Life Members for 2019 is currently posted on the door of Room 243. Please check to see if your name is spelled correctly. If it is incorrect, please see me as soon as possible so I can correct it. If you think your name should be on the list and it is not, please come see me in Room 349. – Karen Cunningham, CSF

COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER

·      Schedule a one-on-one appointment with one of our credentialed college counselors. Call 310-318-7337 ext. 5253 or email [email protected]. *Juniors – the Spring Semester is an ideal time to meet with a CCC Counselor.

·      College Representative Visits In The CCC – If visit is during class please get teacher permission to attend. This is an opportunity to learn about your schools of interest and meet the admission counselors. View all visits and sign-up to attend on NAVIANCE. Please bring your school ID.

o   TODAY, 3/29 Santa Monica College at 12:20pm (lunch)

o   Wednesday, 4/10 El Camino College 9:30am – 2:00pm. Make sure you are completing the tasks that are needed to qualify for Priority Registration and the Honors Program. Come to the CCC to make an appointment to develop an Educational Plan or answer any questions you may have. 

o   Friday, 4/12 Florida Polytechnic University at 10:23am.

·         Semester at Sea – If you are interested in learning about Semester at Sea as part of your University or gap year experience, please attend the information session for prospective voyagers. The ship’s 100-day journey stops in 10 different countries. In each port students can choose from a variety of field programs, or elect to travel independently. Students take university classes and earn academic credit. Wendy O’Brien is hosting the event at her home in Palos Verdes Estates this Sunday, March 31 from 2 – 5 pm. ·      The Mayor’s Youth Council will begin accepting applications on April 8. The program begins in September and runs through April 2020.  Mayor's Youth Council is an exciting program that brings together high school students and professional leaders to explore leadership, careers, and civic engagement. Selected students will meet monthly and have the opportunity to meet and dialogue with leaders in numerous industries, government, arts and more! 

Criteria to apply:

  -Student must be a resident of Manhattan Beach or attend Mira Costa High School

  -The program is open to students who will enter the 2019 school year this fall as a Sophomore, Junior &/or Senior

  -Students are only allowed to miss one meeting to remain in good standing and are expected to commit to the following dates if accepted -Sep 4, Oct 2, Nov 6, Dec 4, Jan 15, Feb 5 , Mar 4, and April 15

  -There is a $150 registration fee which helps cover dinner and supplies for each workshop.

Applications will be available April 8 at 6am on the website  http://mb-myc.com/ and will run until 100 applications are received –  it fills quickly.
