·        Come to the Mustang Mall at lunch TODAY to see the Dodgeball Championship game!

·        Everybody should have received their Spirit Wear. If not, come to the Student Store to pick up your clothes. There is a new shipment of spirit wear ready to be distributed.

·        Last chance to sign up for Lip Sync 2016! First place, $150; Second place, $100; Third place, $50! Lip Sync Contest will be held Nov. 17! Sign up this week at the Dance Team Table at lunch!

·        Need community service? Want to have FUN? Love animals? Great team bonding opportunity. Paint and be part of history by helping Portraits of Hope with their newest civic art project, ”Promoting Pet Adoption through Animal Shelter Revitalizations.” Sign up NOW for their Sat/Sun painting sessions at [email protected]. ·        The Fall Production of Almost, Maine opens this Friday, Nov. 4 at 7:30 pm in the small/new theatre. It runs Saturday, Nov. 5 at 7:30 pm, Wednesday Nov. 9 at 4 pm, Thurs. Nov 10 at 6:30 pm, Friday Nov. 11 at 7:30 and Saturday Nov. 12 at 2 pm & 7:30 pm. Pre-sale tickets can be purchased in the Mall at lunch for $10 for students and seniors, $12 for adults. After Nov. 4, pre-sale price will increase to $12 and $15. The Wednesday, Nov. 9 show is $5 for MCHS students.

SENIORS

  • There will be an important meeting for seniors regarding Caps and Gowns and Graduation items with Jostens TODAY during AM Office Hours (9:27 am). Please report to the Auditorium as quickly as possible so the meeting can begin on time. Thank you.

SPORTS

  • Pleae come to Spyder Surf shops this weekend to support the Mira Costa Boys’ Lacrosse Team. You will receive 20% off any purchase at both Hermosa Beach locations all day Saturday, Nov. 5 and Sunday, Nov. 6. The Lax boys thank you for your support!
  • Come to the Costa pool TODAY to cheer on your Mustang Water Polo. It’s the LAST HOME GAME (vs. Redondo) AND SENIOR DAY, TOO! Varsity game is at 3 pm, JV & Frosh/Soph follow. The “World Famous Snack Shack” will be open at 2 pm. This Saturday (11/5) Costa takes on Loyola at 1 pm, JV at 2 pm, at the Costa pool. It’s been a great season. Thanks for your support – GO COSTA!
  • Join Girls’ Rugby! Practices are every Tuesday, Wednesday (TODAY), and Friday at 2:15 – 3:30 pm in the backfield! No Experience Needed!
  • Boys’ Basketball tryouts have been moved. The new tryout date is Nov. 8 from 7 – 9 pm at Manhattan Beach Middle School. Please email Coach Amaral directly if you are an upper-classman interested in trying out for Varsity at [email protected].

  • Homeroom Teachers: The final deadline to turn in your orange UNICEF Trick-or-Treat fundraiser boxes has been extended to this Friday, 11/4. Please drop your box with Ms. Gardner in the Admin office.

CLUBS & ORGANIZATIONS

·        Come to Lend a Hand Club on Fridays at lunch in Room 72 to find out when our next trip is to Skid Row to feed the homeless!

·        Mental Health Awareness Club: Come to Room 21 Tuesdays to learn about mental health and, more importantly, how to spread awareness about these struggles.

·        Black Scholars Union meets every Thursday in Room 74 at lunch. We have several new initiatives for this year that we would love for you to be a part of. All new members are welcome!

·        Please come to Me to We Club in Room 203. We help support education in Kenya and hope to build a classroom.

·        Come to Drama Club every Wednesday (TODAY) during lunch in the Drama Room 1 to learn all about the upcoming events in the Drama/Tech Department.

·        Come to Pink Ribbon Club on Thursdays in Room 78. All are welcome.

COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER

·         CCC Updates

The CCC will now be open from 8 am – 7 pm Monday-Thursday and 8 am – 5 pm on Fridays. We hope you can take advantage of the extra hours and our extended services.

*Meditation and Relaxation Workshop – Thursday, 11/3 at 5:00 – 6pm in the CCC. Go to the CCC Calendar on the MCHS website to sign up.

*College Application Workshop Wednesdays from 2:00-7:00pm. Walk in and work on your college applications and personal statements with support from a CCC counselor. Bring a device or reserve one in the CCC.

*Ninth Grade Planning Meetings in the CCC – on multiple dates to accommodate small groups: Evening meetings (6-7pm) 11/ 9, 15; 12/1, 5, 14. Daytime meetings: (9-10am) on 11/7, 17, 12/8, 9, 13.  Topics include: 9th grade planning, 4-year planning graduation requirements, A-G College entrance requirements, academic goals, extracurricular activities, and how to stay in touch. ·         SCROC is now enrolling for its 9-week courses. Classes begin Monday, Nov. 14. Sign up in the Career Center to speak with a SCROC advisor and pick up an application.

·            Test Prep Resources:

o  Attention Juniors, on Nov. 12 there will be a Free SAT/ACT Combo Practice Test held by Kaplan Test Prep to help students decide between the SAT or ACT. Participants will receive their scores instantly. The practice test will be held at Westwood Kaplan Center from 9:00am-12:30pm as well as Live Online. Sign up at www.kaptest.com/practicetestweekend.

o  Revolution Prep is offering free online practice tests. Sign up using this link: https://www.revolutionprep.com/jk-practice-test. Download practice tests and take them in the comfort of your own home.

o  PJ Test Prep is offering Free SAT/ACT Tests on Saturday, Nov. 19 and Sunday, Dec. 4 starting at 10:00am.
