·        Football Game at Redondo TONIGHT! Come out in your Green and Gold! Show them what the best school in the South Bay looks like.

·        Everybody should have received their Spirit Wear. If not, come to the Student Store to pick up your clothes. There is a new shipment of spirit wear ready to be distributed.

·        Need community service? Want to have FUN? Love animals? Great team bonding opportunity. Paint and be part of history by helping Portraits of Hope with their newest civic art project, ”Promoting Pet Adoption through Animal Shelter Revitalizations.” Sign up NOW for their Sat/Sun painting sessions at [email protected]. ·        The Fall Production of Almost, Maine opens TONIGHT, Nov. 4 at 7:30 pm in the small/new theatre. It runs Saturday, Nov. 5 at 7:30 pm, Wednesday Nov. 9 at 4 pm, Thurs. Nov 10 at 6:30 pm, Friday Nov. 11 at 7:30 and Saturday Nov. 12 at 2 pm & 7:30 pm. Pre-sale tickets can be purchased in the Mall at lunch for $10 for students and seniors, $12 for adults. After today, pre-sale price will increase to $12 and $15. The Wednesday, Nov. 9 show is $5 for MCHS students.

SPORTS

  • The last chance to try out for Boys’ Soccer will be Monday – Wednesday, 11/7 – 11/9. Meet Coach Smith in Room 132 at 3:00 pm the first day.
  • Please come to Spyder Surf shops this weekend to support the Mira Costa Boys’ Lacrosse Team. You will receive 20% off any purchase at both Hermosa Beach locations all day Saturday, Nov. 5 and Sunday, Nov. 6. The Lax boys thank you for your support!
  • Mustang Water Polo: This Saturday (11/5) Costa takes on Loyola at 1 pm, JV at 2 pm, at the Costa pool. It’s been a great season. Thanks for your support – GO COSTA!
  • Boys’ Basketball tryouts have been moved. The new tryout date is Nov. 8 from 7 – 9 pm at Manhattan Beach Middle School. Please email Coach Amaral directly if you are an upper-classman interested in trying out for Varsity at [email protected].

  • Homeroom Teachers: The final deadline to turn in your orange UNICEF fundraiser boxes has been extended to TODAY, 11/4. Please drop your box with Ms. Gardner in the Admin office.

CLUBS & ORGANIZATIONS

·        Come learn one of the most user-friendly, powerful, and highly demanded programming languages with Python Gaming and Coding Club after school TODAY in Room 52. But don’t believe us; look up “Python” on Google and see the results.

·        Mental Health Awareness Club: Come to Room 21 Tuesdays to learn about how to raise awareness and de-stress.

·        Heming-hey there! Come to Creative Writing Club this Thursday in Room 207 at lunch! New members are always welcome!

·        Come to Inalienable Club TODAY in Room 137 in the Math & Science building to learn how you can protect the rights and dignity of migrants worldwide.

·        Come visit the Ladies Aid Club in Room 20 on Thursdays at lunch. We focus on the empowerment and health of people in need.

·        Come to Children’s Hospital LA Club every Monday in Room 22. All are welcome!

·        Come to Lend a Hand Club on Fridays (TODAY) at lunch in Room 72 to find out when our next trip is to Skid Row to feed the homeless!

COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER

·         College Visits – Please sign up on Naviance If visit is during class, please ask your teacher for permission.

o   Tuesday 11/8Santa Monica College Application Workshop at 12:20pm.

o   Thursday 11/10 Reed College at 8:00am, U.S. Army Scholarship Presentation at 12:20pm.

·         CCC Updates

The CCC will now be open from 8 am – 7 pm Monday-Thursday and 8 am – 5 pm on Fridays. We hope you can take advantage of the extra hours and our extended services.

*College Application Workshop Wednesdays from 2:00-7:00pm. Walk in and work on your college applications and personal statements with support from a CCC counselor. Bring a device or reserve one in the CCC.

*Ninth Grade Planning Meetings in the CCC – on multiple dates to accommodate small groups: Evening meetings (6-7pm) 11/9, 15; 12/1, 5, 14. Daytime meetings: (9-10am) on 11/7, 17, 12/8, 9, 13.  Topics include: 9th grade planning, 4-year planning graduation requirements, A-G College entrance requirements, academic goals, extracurricular activities, and how to stay in touch. Go to the CCC Calendar on the MCHS website to sign up. ** The CCC will close at 3:30pm TODAY, 11/16, and 12/7; please plan accordingly.

·         SCROC is now enrolling for its 9-week courses. Classes begin Monday, Nov. 14. Sign up in the Career Center to speak with a SCROC advisor and pick up an application.

·            Test Prep Resources:

o  Attention Juniors, on Nov. 12 there will be a Free SAT/ACT Combo Practice Test held by Kaplan Test Prep to help students decide between the SAT or ACT. Participants will receive their scores instantly. The practice test will be held at Westwood Kaplan Center from 9:00am-12:30pm as well as Live Online. Sign up at www.kaptest.com/practicetestweekend.

o  Revolution Prep is offering free online practice tests. Sign up using this link: https://www.revolutionprep.com/jk-practice-test. Download practice tests and take them in the comfort of your own home.

o  PJ Test Prep is offering Free SAT/ACT Tests on Saturday, Nov. 19 and Sunday, Dec. 4 starting at 10:00am.
