STUDENT INFO           

·         The ASB Finance Office/Student Store will be open TODAY from 9:00am to 10:30am only. We will not be open during lunch. Please handle any club or financial business during nutrition.

·         Reminder: Neptunian Woman’s Club Art and Photo Contest is in full swing! Entry forms are available in the office or from your Art or Photo teacher. Deadline to turn in entries to Ms. Gardner is Friday, Feb. 10.

·         The Mira Costa Choirs present their winter concert, This Shining Night, featuring four choirs and two a cappella groups TONIGHT, Dec. 16 at 7 pm in the auditorium. Free admission for students.

·         One space left! Interested in going to London for Spring Break? See Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, Hampton Court, the bloody tower of London, Stonehenge, and Windsor Castle. Visit ancient Roman ruins. See major shows such as Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, the London Philharmonic at the Royal Albert Hall and more! ·         Lost and Found! Lost and found will be donating all items that are not claimed by Thursday, Dec. 22. Please stop by the attendance office to look for any items you may have lost.

·         Shoe Drive FINAL DAY! Over 1.5 billion people do not own a pair of shoes! Please clean out your closet and donate y our old shoes to those in need. We will be collecting shoes at the school office and around campus through TODAY! Please tie laces together or rubber band to keep shoes in pairs. Help us change the world one pair at a time!

FACULTY

·         If you have not already done so, please stop by Chuck Currier’s Room 2222 at snack or lunch TODAY to sign a special poster/get well card for Tim Cooper, our athletic trainer, who is at UCLA after a major surgery. The card will be taken to him on Friday evening.

·         Please excuse the following teams this week:

o    TODAY, 12/16: Wrestling, Girls at 9:00 am; Boys at 11:20 am.

CLUBS & ORGANIZATIONS

·         S Club is doing a Toy Drive for the 1736 Family Crisis Shelter! Please donate new or gently used toys to the wrapped drop off boxes in the choir, band & orchestra rooms, the band hall, or in Mr. Zeoli’s (Rm. 23) or Ms. Manago’s classroom (338).

·         Mental Health Awareness Club: Come to Room 21 Tuesdays to learn about mental health, how to de-stress and, more importantly, how to spread awareness about these struggles.

·         Do you like eating cookies and/or taking naps? Then the Cookie and Nap Club is for you! Meeting TODAY in Room 20. Cookies and some blankets provided.

·         Come to Lend a Hand Club on Fridays (TODAY) in Room 72 at lunch! We go to Skid Row on Sundays and make lunches for the homeless.

 

COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER

·         Feeling stressed about finals? Join us in the CCC for a warm and relaxing treat TODAY (12/16) at lunch! The first 25 students will receive a FREE GIFT to help you de-stress!

·         SeniorsThe MCHS Scholarship Notebook Program will begin in January. If you wish to participate, you will be required to attend ONE of the MANDATORY January lunchtime meetings (1/12, 1/18, OR 1/24). This program allows donors to view your notebook and award local community scholarships. Detailed information is available on the MCHS Website→College Tab→Senior-To-Do Tab. Please sign-up on Naviance to attend one of the meetings and bring $7 to purchase notebooks.

·         FEATURED SUMMER PROGRAM:

Eve & Gene Black Summer Medical Career Program This is a medical mentorship/internship open to students in the 11th or 12th grade when they fill out an application and have a birth date on or before 4/1/01. Under the supervision of a medical facility coordinator, selected participants shadow various medical professionals (nurse, nutritionist, pharmacist, lab technician and/or physician, etc.) 2, 3, and 4 week programs are available (July 1-August4). ·         *NEW* Career Speaker Series – Beginning in January! Professionals in various industries will visit the CCC to speak about their careers and the path they took to get there.  This is a great opportunity to learn about different careers and the steps you need to take to land your dream job! Please sign-up on Naviance or in the CCC.  All grade levels are welcome!  Watch the bulletin for additional speakers.

Revolution Prep will present “The Insider’s Guide to College Admissions Testing” on Tuesday, Jan. 24 from 5:30-6:30pm or Wednesday, Feb. 1 from 12:30-1:20pm. o    PJ Test Prep is offering SAT or ACT practice tests 10am-2:10pm with a results seminar 2:45-4:00pm on Saturdays – Jan. 7, 14 at the Hermosa Beach Holiday Inn Express, and Jan. 18, and Mar. 19 at the Torrance Courtyard Marriott.
