·        You are cordially invited to attend Mira Costa’s sixth annual Poetry Out Loud Competition at 7 pm in the small theatre on Thursday, Jan. 19. While the judges are tabulating, there will be a community open mic – contestants and audience members are welcome to read original poems. If you are a poet, please come share your poetic genius! We hope you make it out for this amazing night of poetry. Admission is FREE!

·        Mandatory Poetry Out Loud contestant meeting this Thursday 1/12 at lunch in Ms. Sieker’s Room 44!

·        Office Hours Days: If you are unable to check in for Office Hours, go to the administrative office immediately for assistance. Please do not wait until later in the day to get help.

·        The Grammy Award winning Mira Costa Jazz Bands are holding two open rehearsal clinics for placement in Jazz Band II. The clinics will be TODAY, Monday, Jan. 9 and Wednesday, Jan. 11 from 3-5 pm in Room 4. RSVP on the sign-up sheet in Room 4.

·        Calling all artists for the “Why I © MB” City Hall Art Exhibition! The MB Parks and Rec Department’s Cultural Arts Division is looking for artists of all ages to submit their entries for the 2017 “Why I © MB” art exhibition. Theme: Original artwork that depicts what people love about MB. Exhibition Dates: Feb. 21 through Mar. 16,  2017. Exhibition Location: Manhattan Beach City Hall, 1400 Highland Ave., MB, CA 90266. ·        Reminder: Neptunian Woman’s Club Art and Photo Contest is in full swing! Entry forms are available in the office or from your Art or Photo teacher. Deadline to turn in entries to Ms. Gardner is Friday, Feb. 10.

SPORTS

·        Boys’ Lacrosse – Anyone not playing a winter sport is expected at practices Jan. 10, 11 & 12 for evaluations. Anyone playing a winter sport is expected to email [email protected] with the intent of playing in the spring, and attend practices as soon as their winter sport is done.

·        Girls’ Beach Volleyball Tryouts are Jan. 16 & 18! Everyone, if you are interested in trying out, please click here to complete the form or go to the following link:

COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER

·         SeniorsThe MCHS Scholarship Notebook Program will begin this month. If you wish to participate, you will be required to attend ONE of the MANDATORY January lunchtime meetings (1/12, 1/18, OR 1/24). This program allows donors to view your notebook and award local community scholarships. Detailed information is available on the MCHS Website→College Tab→Senior-To-Do Tab. Please sign-up on Naviance to attend one of the meetings and bring $7 to purchase notebooks.

·         FEATURED SUMMER PROGRAM: Eve & Gene Black Summer Medical Career Program

This is a medical mentorship/internship open to students in the 11th or 12th grade when they fill out an application and have a birth date on or before 4/1/01. ·         Career Speaker Series – Beginning this month! Professionals in various industries will visit the CCC to speak about their careers and the path they took to get there.  This is a great opportunity to learn about different careers and the steps you need to take to land your dream job! Please sign-up on Naviance or in the CCC.  All grade levels are welcome!  Watch the bulletin for additional speakers.

o   Revolution Prep is offering free SAT or ACT Practice Exams on Saturday, Feb. 4 from 9:00am-1:00pm at MCHS. Register by Feb. 1, call (818) 217-0951 or email: [email protected]. Revolution Prep will present “The Insider’s Guide to College Admissions Testing” on Tuesday, Jan. 24 from 5:30-6:30pm or Wednesday, Feb. 1 from 12:30-1:20pm. o   PJ Test Prep is offering SAT or ACT practice tests 10am-2:10pm with a results seminar 2:45-4:00pm on Saturdays – Jan. 7, 14 at the Hermosa Beach Holiday Inn Express, and Jan. 18, and Mar. 19 at the Torrance Courtyard Marriott.
