STUDENT INFO           

·      TODAY, Jan. 27, is the last day to turn in Our Beauty project proposals to Room 17! Help increase cultural representation by filling out a quick one-page form here: http://tinyurl.com/hg63roq and submitting! We will still take emailed submissions to our [email protected] until Sunday.

·      Student Print Job Requests – Timeline Deadlines:

o   Print jobs to be PICKED up BEFORE SCHOOL need to be SUBMITTED the NIGHT BEFORE.

o   Print jobs to be PICKED up during SNACK or LUNCH need to be SUBMITTED by 9 am.

If you are requesting a print job, please email document in PDF format and send file as an attachment to [email protected]. Please put your name in the subject line. You may pick up your printed job in Room 42 before school, at snack, or lunch only and not during class times or passing periods. Printing is .10₵ per side.

·     Come one, come all! If you have a talent in rap, African-American dance, the blues, or any other talents associated with African-American culture, you should consider showcasing your talent in the Black History Month Assembly, scheduled for Feb 23. Whether it’s singing, dancing or playing an instrument, you have the opportunity to share your unique talent with other Costa students. Auditions will be held on Thursday, Feb. 2 at 4 pm in Room 74. People of all backgrounds are welcome to audition.

·      One space left! Interested in going to London for Spring Break? See Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, Changing of the Guard, Hampton Court, the bloody tower of London, Stonehenge, and Windsor Castle.  Go on a tour of the set where they filmed the Harry Potter movies! Visit ancient Roman ruins. See major shows such as Matilda, Les Miserables, the London Philharmonic at the Royal Albert Hall, and more!  Airfare, accommodations, all tours, transfers, and transportation included for only $3,100! Chaperones Mr. Lewis and Miss Gesualdi. ·      Calling all art! Art Club will be holding an art show, the Melting Pot, in Room 60, the gallery. Submit your work by Feb. 1 to Ms. Martin’s Room 62.

·         The Neptunian Woman’s Club Art and Photo Contest is in full swing. Entry forms are available in the office or from your Art or Photo teacher. Deadline to turn in entries to Ms. Gardner is Friday, Feb. 10.

·      Students who have excused periods (other than zero period): Off-grounds stickers for spring semester are available this week in the main office at snack, lunch, or before or after school ONLY. You MUST have a current school ID to get a sticker.

·      Tonight’s Play opens TONIGHT at 7:30 pm! Don’t miss your chance to witness MCHS’s first fully improvised show! Tickets are $10 for students and $12 for adults, and can be purchased in the Mustang Mall at lunch or at the door. Can’t make it tonight? Catch tomorrow’s 2 pm or 7:30 pm shows – each different and unique! Hope to see you in the small theatre!

·      Attention! Talent Show tickets are now on sale! You can buy them at the ASB Room 40/41, from Mrs. Claypoole, or from a senior class officer.

·      Winter Formal Tickets are on sale now in the Student Store. Come by during snack or lunch to pick up your permission form. Ticket vouchers are also available on the ASB Webstore.

·      The ASB Finance Office will be closed TODAY for all items except AP Registration and Winter Formal purchases.

·      AP Students: Don’t forget to sign up to register to take your AP exams TODAY during lunch only at the Student Store. Please bring your completed blue worksheet and a pen to complete the actual registration form. Checks ($98 for each exam) should be made payable to MCHS. New This Year: Online registration also is available NOW. Go to the ASB webstore on the MCHS website. A credit card is required for online registration.

·      If you worked hard last semester and received fantastic grades, you may be eligible for CSF! The current membership drive will continue through Friday, Feb. 3. Come to Room 243 to pick up an application and ask questions. Freshmen are invited to become an “Associate Member.”

·      Hermosa Valley School is looking for HVS alumni to be Cabin Leaders for the 6th Grade Outdoor Science School in Malibu. Outdoor School will take place from Monday, Mar. 13 to Friday, Mar. 17. Cabin leaders can earn 100 community service hours. The applicant deadline is TODAY, so that we can have a crew and alternates in place. Please contact Mr. Hecker ASAP at [email protected].

SENIORS

·     If you need a mid-year report sent to your colleges, please obtain the new “Mid-Year Report” form from your counselor or on the CCC website. Fill out the form and return back to your counselor by Feb. 3.

FACULTY

·     Due to its limited seating and run time, comp tickets will not be offered for Tonight’s Play. However, we’d love to invite you to take advantage of the student price ($10). Purchase tickets in the Mustang Mall at lunch, or at the door. Please bring your ID to the show. We hope to see you this weekend (TONIGHT at 7:30 pm, Saturday at 2 pm & 7:30 pm) in the small theatre!

CLUBS & ORGANIZATIONS

·     Come to Lend a Hand Club on Fridays (TODAY) in Room 72 at lunch! You can earn 6+ hours of community service by coming to Skid Row with us on Sundays!

·     Interested in Chemistry? Come check out Mira Costa Chemistry Club every Friday (TODAY) in Mr. Nodado’s Room 342. For all AP Chemistry students, we will also be hosting Chemistry Olympiad – great preparation for the AP Chemistry Exam!

·     Come to Help Group Club in Room 72 on Mondays!

·     Come to Mental Health Awareness Club Tuesdays in Mr. Wheeler’s Room 22 to bring awareness about these struggles.

·     If you want to take a nap, eat cookies, or just want to meet friends, old and new? Come to the Cookie and Nap Club in Room 20 this Friday!

·     Come to Inalienable Club TODAY in Room 137 in the Math & Science building to discuss upcoming fund-raising. Help us defend the rights of migrants around the world!

·     Come earn community service hours by tutoring, and various other fun activities at Richstone Family Center. Come to Richstone Club in Room 207 TODAY.

COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER

·      El Camino Assessment Testing at MCHS – Monday, Feb. 6 at 8am-10:30am in Room 241. For students planning to attend El Camino College in the fall, El Camino proctors will be on campus to offer one session of assessment testing. You must have an El Camino College student ID number to take the test. We highly encourage students to study for the test beforehand. The ECC testing office has resource guides online, or pick up a copy in the CCC. *Please sign-up on Naviance, seating is limited.  If you can’t attend this on-campus testing session, you may complete your assessment testing at the El Camino College Assessment Center located in the Student Services Center on the ECC Campus.

·      Featured Program: Soroptimist’s Dream It, Be It Career Support for Girls Program. By participating in this program you will learn about career opportunities, setting and achieving goals, overcoming obstacles to success, and moving forward after setbacks. ·      Career Speaker Series – Beginning this month! Professionals in various industries will visit the CCC to speak about their careers and the path they took to get there. This is a great opportunity to learn about different careers and the steps you need to take to gain opportunities for internships and to land your dream job. Please sign-up on Naviance or in the CCC.
