STUDENT INFO           

·      Come to Drama/Tech Department’s Aids Benefit on Tuesday at 7 pm in the New Theatre for $5. All proceeds go to Broadway Cares Equity Fights Aids.

·      Come see Valentine’s Day Scenes in the Drama Room 1 during AM office hours Wednesday!

·      Scholar Quiz sign-ups will be held on Wednesday, Mar. 1 beginning at 6:45 am in the Auditorium lobby on a first-come, first-served basis. All grades are welcome. Please fill out the Team Entry form (available on the Mira Costa website) and bring it with you. Forms will also be available in the office. We are limited to 64 teams. Competition dates are March 29, 30, 31 and April 3, 4, 5.

·      Mira Costa Hockey: There will be a mandatory meeting on Thursday, Feb. 9 at lunch in Room 242. The team has run into complications, and we will discuss the future of the team and the season. All interested players should attend.

·      Need Community Service Hours? Lunches with Love’s next delivery is this Sunday, Feb. 12. Help us feed the homeless on Skid Row with your bagged lunches. Five lunches = one community service hour. We are also holding a toiletry drive. Please bring toiletries in a Ziplock bag to this delivery. Our goal is 500+ kits! ·      Sign-ups for the MCHS futsal tournament start this Thursday and end next Tuesday! Teams of 5 plus 1 alternate are $10 per team.

·      GirlForce!  Jazzercise, Inc. introduces a new international initiative – GirlForce! “The goal is for young women to build better health through fitness and boost self-esteem so they have the confidence and strength to do great things!” FREE JAZZERCISE classes for young ladies ages 16-21 for 2017. Classes are held at Clark Stadium, Hermosa Beach Monday – Sunday! See your counselor for more information!

·      The Mira Costa History Project’s mission is to research, record, and preserve the people and events that have shaped our high school since 1950. Any student/teacher/staff interested in becoming involved in this incredible adventure should contact Mr. Currier, Room 222, at snack or lunch any day.

·      The Neptunian Woman’s Club Art and Photo Contest is coming to a close. Deadline to turn in entries to Ms. Gardner in the Admin Office is Friday, Feb. 10 by 3 pm. Complete rules are on entry forms in the office, or can be found on the Neptunian Woman’s website: www.neptunians.org.

·      Need community service? Or just want to have FUN? Be part of history and paint with Portraits of Hope by helping with their newest civic art project, “Promoting Pet Adoption through Animal Shelter Revitalizations.” Sign up NOW for their Sat/Sun painting sessions at [email protected]. ·      One space left! Interested in going to London for Spring Break? See Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, Changing of the Guard, Hampton Court, the bloody tower of London, Stonehenge, and Windsor Castle.  Go on a tour of the set where they filmed the Harry Potter movies! Visit ancient Roman ruins. CLUBS & ORGANIZATIONS

·     You want to have a healthy chuckle? Come to Improv Club during lunch Tuesdays (TODAY) in Room 1 for a good time.

·     Come to Drama Club in Room 1 on Wednesday during lunch.

·     Come to Room 79 at lunch on Tuesday (TODAY) to help fight hunger in third world countries.

·     Come to Mental Health Awareness Club Tuesdays in Mr. Wheeler’s Room 21 to bring awareness about these struggles.

 

COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER

·      El Camino College Applicants – If you have completed your ECC assessment testing, you can now set up an individual appointment to meet with an ECC Counselor in the CCC. Appointments are available on Wednesdays beginning on Feb. 22 at 12:20pm – 2:40pm. Sign-up is required and is available in the CCC.

·      Career Speaker Series Professionals in various industries will visit the CCC to speak about their careers and the path they took to get there. This is a great opportunity to learn about different careers and the steps you need to take to gain opportunities for internships and to land your dream job. Please sign-up on Naviance or in the CCC. All grade levels are welcome! Watch the bulletin for additional speakers. February speakers:

o  Wednesday, Feb. 8                 -at 9:51am (AM Office Hours) Costume Design – Paki Wolfe will discuss careers in costume design and the designing process for films and theatrical productions.  Since the Academy Awards are coming up, she’ll also discuss the nominees and their work.

                                                    -at 5:00-6:30pm Careers in Healthcare Learn about career opportunities in healthcare from a panel of professionals. The panel will include: Lauren French Hoy, Mid-Wife and Healthcare Researcher; Alison Atkinson, Nurse Practitioner Cardiac Practice; Leah Vriesman UCLA Health & Policy Management; Melissa Dunbar-Forrest, UCLA Manager of the Kidney and Pancreas Transplant Program - Nursing; Karyn Eilber, M.D., Urologist; Cindy Lowry, Physical Therapist. *Please sign-up on Naviance.

·      Featured Program: The Boeing Internship is a prestigious and highly selective internship for Juniors that takes place over the summer. If you want to apply for this internship you must attend the mandatory Boeing Internship Information Session on Monday, Feb. 13 from 5:30-7:00pm in the College and Career Center. Parents are highly encouraged to attend. Please RSVP on Naviance under “College Visits,” and visit the CCC if you have any questions.
