hello and welcome to what I anticipate to be another great year at Mira Costa High School my name is Bill and Hoff and I'm your child's AP Statistics teacher do I get into the course overview I thought I would briefly give you some background information regarding myself as an AP Statistics teacher I have been Singh is class for several years now and I'm a current AP Statistics reader what that means is every year in June for seven days I travel to Kansas City degrade AP free response questions during that time I'm able to obtain information that no other AP statistics teacher in the South Bay is able to obtain I'm able to understand how the free response questions are created as well as inside into how the rubrics were created and how the free response questions are graded and I'm able to incorporate that into my lesson plans for each year also unable to spend plenty of time collaborating with other excellent AP Statistics teachers I want you to be aware that this class is much more rigorous than any introductory-level college statistics class the emphasis in this class is going to be on data collection data analysis probability and the second semester will be devoted entirely to inference procedures a grading scale is consistent with the plus minus system use with the district The Waiting Street semester are slightly different during the first semester homework is weighted 10% while tests quiz grade are weighted 65% with a final exam being waited 25% during the semester the test and quiz send stays the same while homework is increased to 15% every student will be required to complete a final project which will be worth 20% of their grade now students who take the AP statistics Exam in May will not be required to take a spring final exam those students who did not sit for the AP exam will have to take a final exam in the spring such exam will count what's the test in quiz waiting's it during the second semester each chapter I sign reading quizzes notes are collected and counted as as quiz score on the day of every test 4tests there aren't play cups if a student misses a test due to an unexcused absence that test is replaced with a zero any test that is due to an excused absence during the first semester will be replaced with the final exam score during the semester any test that is due to an excused absence will be replaced by the chapter 10 test attendance in course extremely matters Eddie's will receive consequences as deleted by the school discipline Matrix as repeated before any unexcused absence for any assessment will result in zero points communication spy use PowerSchool exclusively for recording grades I remind students to check PowerSchool for any upcoming assignments tests or quizzes in anticipation of being absent I've also reminded students to check PowerSchool for any past assignments tests and quizzes and to check the accuracy of the grades that I have recorded every assignment test and quiz for both semesters has been uploaded into the system your child's current grade in PowerSchool typically is real-time grade I try to input grades immediately into the system to give you a real-time accurate picture of what is there a current statuses in my class if you have any questions regarding my course procedures or policies please refer to my course signs which are posted on my website in the Mira Costa High.
