·      Boys Varsity Basketball celebrates Senior basketball players TONIGHT at 7:30 at Fisher Gym against Morningside High School. Come see some exciting basketball, enjoy Roadhouse Grill BBQ and come listen to Vox DJ playing some sick beats! Go Costa!

·      Scholar Quiz Registration opens February 7 at 6:00 am (NEW TIME!). As in previous years, only one person signs up for the entire team. NEW this year: ON-LINE registration at https://www.miracostahigh.org/apps/form/form.MIRCOSHS.qHectyo.hA. Find this on the Mira Costa website www.miracostahigh.org on the front page under “LATEST NEWS.” Selections will be made on a first come, first served basis, regardless of grade, and will be time stamped upon on line registration. The Scholar Quiz dates are March 13, 14, 15, 16, 19, 21Only 64 teams will be guaranteed entry. All others will be placed on a list of alternates. Questions? ·      The Mira Costa History Project is looking for someone who knows how to use Adobe In-Design and could teach some members of the History Project. See Mr. Currier in Room 222 at snack or lunch any day.

·      Attention Students: TODAY is the last day to purchase Winter Formal tickets, so make sure to head over to the Student Store!

·      AP Students: Don’t forget to sign up to register to take your AP exams TODAY during lunch only at the student store. Please bring your completed blue worksheet and a pen to complete the actual registration form. Checks ($99 for each exam) should be made payable to MCHS. Online registration is also available now. Go to ASB Webstore on the MCHS website. A credit card is required, and there is a small convenience fee for online registration.

·      NEED COMMUNITY SERVICE? Lunches with Love is collecting bagged hygiene kits and SOCKS for delivery to the Union Rescue Mission. They have an unprecedented number of women, children and families. ·      The California Scholarship Federation (CSF) membership drive ends TODAY! Applications may be picked up in Room 243. If you don’t know what CSF is all about, please come to Room 243 at snack or lunch during the membership drive to ask questions.

CLUBS & ORGANIZATIONS

·      “Help! Help! I’m being repressed!” Come to the lately banned and renamed Club of Anarcho-Syndicalist Commune of Repressed Filth Rakers (CASCRFR) meeting in Room 25 at lunch on Mondays.

·      The South Bay Food Initiative is sponsoring a stellar community service opportunity at the LA Food Bank on Saturday, Feb. 10. Come to Room 203 (Mr. Piper’s Room) of the history building to learn more.

·      Need stress relief? Come check out some cute pictures, drawings, and paintings of animals and enjoy free snack! Feb. 5 through 9 in Room 60. Sponsored by your Animal Shelter Club.

·      Are you an artist, photographer, poet or writer? Get your personal pieces published in Costa’s Literary Magazine, Reflections, by submitting them to [email protected] and coming to Room 207 Mondays at lunch!

COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER

·      College Admissions Panel for Out of State and International Schools on Feb. 6, 5:30 to 7PM in the CCC.

Please join representatives from the University of New Mexico, Arizona State University, Syracuse, and the American University of Paris for an informational evening on an out-of-state college experience. With thousands of options available, helping students decide where to attend college can be a challenging task. However this presentation will pave the road to refining choices and how to pay for it!! The informative and entertaining workshop covers in-state choices, out-of-state possibilities, the top reasons students choose a college, the various costs, financial aid and scholarship opportunities - merit, need or both! ·      Featured Summer Program: Los Angeles Pediatric Society Eve and Gene Black Summer Medical Center Program     This is a free medical mentor internship program. Under the supervision of a health care educator/medical facility coordinator, participants shadow various medical professionals (nurse, nutritionist, pharmacist, lab tech and/or physician, etc.) who provide a range of patient care services. When you fill out this application, you must currently be in 11th or 12th grade AND born ON or BEFORE 4/1/2002. ·      Juniors Boys: American Legion’s Boys State Program is seeking applicants. American Legion Boys State is among the most respected and selective educational programs of government instruction for U.S. high-school students. It is a participatory program in which students become part of the operation of local, county and state government. If selected, students attend the week-long program at Sacramento State University beginning on June 16, 2018. For more information visit: https://www.legion.org/boysnation/stateabout. ·      FREE SAT/ACT PRACTICE TEST Revolution Prep is offering a FREE full-length practice ACT and SAT at Mira Costa High School on Saturday, March 3rd at 9am-1pm - choose either ACT or SAT. ·      SoCalRoc: SoCal Roc is now enrolling for the spring 2018 semester. Classes began Jan. 29. The SoCalRoc Counselor is available in the CCC every Monday from 8:30 – 10:30 am. Please sign up in the CCC to meet with her or drop in for more information about SoCalRoc class offerings.
