·      In honor of Black History Month, junior Nia Marshall will be curating an art exhibit that commemorates black culture through black art. Join her in Room60 on February 12 through 17 at lunch to appreciate your fellow students’ art. Free food will be served on Feb. 12! See you there.

·      Link Crew is hosting our second “Let’s Talk About It” series on the topic of Maximizing Your Summer. This is an opportunity to ask fellow students how they spend their summers, from learning to staying active to taking care of their personal health and everything in between! Stop by to ask a question, listen in, and grab a treat. THIS THURSDAY at lunch in front of Room 20.

·      Scholar Quiz Registration opened TODAY, February 7 at 6:00 am. As in previous years, only one person signs up for the entire team. NEW this year: ON-LINE registration at https://www.miracostahigh.org/apps/form/form.MIRCOSHS.qHectyo.hA. Find this on the Mira Costa website www.miracostahigh.org on the front page under “LATEST NEWS.” Selections will be made on a first come, first served basis, regardless of grade, and will be time stamped upon on line registration. The Scholar Quiz dates are March 13, 14, 15, 16, 19, 21Only 64 teams will be guaranteed entry. All others will be placed on a list of alternates. Questions? ·      AP Students: Did you miss registering for the AP exams? There will be late registration TODAY at lunch only at the student store. Online registration is also available now. Go to ASB Webstore on the MCHS website. A credit card is required, and there is a small convenience fee for online registration. Either way, an additional fee of $15 for each exam will be charged.

·      NEED COMMUNITY SERVICE? Lunches with Love is collecting bagged hygiene kits and SOCKS for delivery to the Union Rescue Mission. They have an unprecedented number of women, children and families. CLUBS & ORGANIZATIONS

·      Come to Drama Club Wednesdays (TODAY) at lunch in Room 1 to learn upcoming and exciting news happening in the Drama/Tech Department.

·      Come to Support Our Students this Thursday in Room 234 to learn how to help chronically ill or injured Mira Costa students.

·      Get some community service hours and participate in a distinguished club, The South Bay Food Initiative, Tuesdays at lunch in Mr. Piper’s Room (205, in the history building).

COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER

·      PSAT SCORES – If you took the PSAT in October, your detailed score sheets and test booklets are now available in the CCC for pick-up.

·      College Representative Visits In The CCC – If visit is during class please get teacher permission to attend. This is an opportunity to learn about your schools of interest and meet the admission counselors. View all visits and sign up to attend on NAVIANCE.

o   Wednesday, 2/14 – El Camino College at 9:27am (AM Office Hours). 

·      Featured Program: Space Science Day 2018 at El Camino College on Saturday, March 10.This year marks the 32nd anniversary of the Space Shuttle Challenger accident that took the lives of the seven crew members including Ellison Onizuka. The day is designed for serious-minded science students in grades 5 through 12. Once again, the whole event is FREE – including lunch for the first 900 students. We are expecting another great turnout as well as an enjoyable and informative day. This year’s featured NASA Astronaut is Robert Shane Kimbrough. Kimbrough is a veteran of two spaceflights, the first being a Space Shuttle flight and the second being a 6-month mission to the International Space Station. He has a total of six spacewalks and has logged a total of 189 days in space. Because of limited space, and to ensure a seat and early check-in, students should sign up now. ·      FREE SAT/ACT PRACTICE TEST Revolution Prep is offering a FREE full-length practice ACT and SAT at Mira Costa High School on Saturday, March 3rd at 9am-1pm - choose either ACT or SAT.
