The Enlightenment and the Arts
The Enlightenment had an important impact on the nature of government, law, relations between church and state, and the nature of knowledge itself. However, the Enlightenment also had a dramatic impact on the arts as well. In this extra credit assignment, you are to explore the effect of the Enlightenment on the arts.

Step 1
Which area of the arts will you cover? Choose 1.
a. visual arts-painting, sculpture, architecture
b. music
c. literature

Step 2
Research the nature of your choice BEFORE the Enlightenment. Find images, or quotes, or other sources to describe your choice in the years before the Enlightenment.

Step 3.
Research, or use the text, to explain how the Enlightenment changed art, literature, or music depending on what you chose.

Step 4
Prepare an oral presentation. This should be long enough to adequately explain Step 2 and 3. Use PowerPoint to complete this. With music you can put songs on your IPOD and bring it to class so we can hear the music.
