welcome to mr. Collins biology class materials students are required to bring a 3 subject spiral notebook make someone's for notes section 2 is for warm-ups and section 3 for homework last and essential questions questions are basically study guide the reason I want him to have sections is so that way they can keep the information organized so that way they can be better equipped for the exam textbooks there's a class set stem sheet the purpose of the stamp sheet is so that way they can have be held accountable so when you come to class and write the information on the agenda bore and if they do the homework they get stamp immediately and at the end of the two weeks I collect the work they are three versions of stamps if they get food rage little get 10 points if it's Fishbones is worth 5 Points and if it's a tortoise usually worth two points there is no late work exams about 61% typically I sign 4 times per week absent the homework is due the following if a student is absent during an exam they have one week to make up the exam during lunch or office hours also if as soon as absent a homework assignment and if they're asking for three days and they have three days to make up the work usually when you come to the classroom they will see the agenda Boris see right here and if there's any major exams coming up it will be posted as well Stampy looks like that you get full credit you should worth 10 points as an image of me the fish bones 5 in the turtles Worth to if a student gets about 70% of the what are vintage I can manipulate the stamps and I can get them fish and a turtle at the beginning of flat socially asked the students if they have any questions if no one has any questions and I stand by right away if a student left a question blank Dan to lose a point for not at for not asking for so they will get nine out of 10 points which will be like a fish and then two turtles topics that are covering the semester semester play one we're going to cover scientific method which is chapter 1 in college is chapters 3 through 6 macromolecules chapter to chapter 844 Kansas's chapter 9 cellular respiration then we covered cell division in meiosis and we also cover molecular biology with protein synthesis which DNA during this semester students who have the opportunity to extract DNA from strawberries and it gets to see what pure DNA looks like semester to we go coin debt we do genetic engineer we actually extract the DNA from viruses and we compare the virus to see where the strain the virus is similar to from another Village or town and they do something similar to what does the CDC does so it's a very engaging and high-tech experiment showing the kids usually like that we also do genetic engineer we also cover Neuroscience which is the nervous system we do the immune system and we recover the body systems in the body systems we usually do the skeleton muscular Digestive and circulatory and respiratory system some of the lab so we tend to do for the body systems include frogs and rats teaching modalities the goal is to engage students by him how is it mean there's a diversity teaching modalities that I usually have in my classroom I have animations and visuals PowerPoints engage activities in lab scaffolding we're basically I give him Clues and they have to figure it out from the clues and we also do the infamous inquiry labs were basically I give barely restruction but they collaborating with groups to the dues and figure out the the constables what they need to learn it is probably one best waist where students learn from being engaged with each other collaborating with each other just like real life scenarios we also do jeopardy with remote to check for understanding usually we have a major exam a show of Jeopardy and is broken down two sections it is based on the study guide and whatever questions they miss they may realize what sections they miss and they can focus on that section when they review the study guy once again background I receive my bachelor's in psychology degree at UCLA I also obtained my master's degree in education in an emphasis in by UCLA I've been teaching for 14 years and seven years of Costa so I need to update that part of my PowerPoint prior teaching I used to work at UC San Diego and I work with HIV patients I also worked at the VA Hospital UCLA was schizophrenic patients also did physical therapy at Santa Monica and Elsa St John's Hospital in the yard apartments in information analyst I ended up getting a tutoring job at UCLA and I fell in love and that's where my passion is what the news I was able to see so different Majors different fields in science so I can percent day Diaz two kids so that way they can have an idea play that pursue whatever passion stitches if you have any questions you can contact me at our Calderon at mbusd.org thank you bye
