MUN Conferences

Your student will be invited to participate in conferences by their advisors. A conference calendar will be emailed to parents and students at the beginning of each semester.

Local conferences: Teachers will let students know if they can attend a local conference as spots are limited.

Requirements to Attend a Local Conference:

NOVICE (freshmen enrolled in Intro to MUN):

1. Your guardian needs to fill out the “MUN Travel Trip Off-Campus Form – Novice.” Be sure to select the name of the conference you are registering for.
2. Pay for the Novice conference fees (attendance fee + bus fee) available on our website: https://mun-mbx.square.site/
3. Print your receipt from your fee payment and show it to your teacher to get a role assigned.

ADVANCED (sophomores, juniors, and seniors invited to the advanced program and registered in the booster club):

1. Your guardian needs to fill out the “MUN Travel Trip Off-Campus Form – Advanced.” Be sure to select the name of the conference you are registering for.
2. Pay for the Advanced bus fee (the booster club covers the attendance fee) available on our website: https://mun-mbx.square.site/.

3. Print your receipt from your fee payment and show it to your teacher to get a role assigned.

Buses depart from Mira Costa and take students to and from the local conference. Students are not permitted to drive separately.

Travel conferences: Students are invited to travel conferences via a written invitation from the advisors. Students must sign and return the invitation and provide a deposit by the date specified in the invitation. As the trip approaches, you will receive communication updates, including balance due and trip details, via email.

LAIMUN: Los Angeles Invitational Model United Nations (LAIMUN) is a two-day fundraising conference hosted by Mira Costa the first weekend in December. Both novice and advanced committees will use docket-style debate. LAIMUN’s novice committees provide delegates a quality conference to develop skills, while the advanced committees serve as a forum for more competitive debate. LAIMUN offers an opportunity for parents who volunteer during the event to experience a Model UN conference.
